Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals
Cory Hedgecock Hustles to Second Southern Nationals Series Win of the Week at Swainsboro Raceway
(SWAINSBORO, GEORGIA) For the second time this week, Cory Hedgecock celebrated in victory lane with the Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals Series presented by Coltman Farms Racing and fueled by GoSunoco on Friday night at Swainsboro Raceway! Cory clicked off the fastest lap overall during FK Rod Ends qualifying at the Swainsboro, Georgia oval to earn the pole position for the 40-lap main event. The Loudon, Tennessee ace then got the jump at the drop of the green flag and held the point throughout the caution-free contest.
At the checkers, Cory was 1.805 seconds ahead of his nearest competition to secure the $7,553 winner’s check at the Peach State venue. Finishing behind Hedgecock at the stripe was sixth-starting Ashton Winger, who had won the previous night at Senoia Raceway. Dalton Cook turned in another strong performance with the series to land on the podium in third. Wil Herrington, who ran as high as second in the race, wound up fourth at the finish, while Austin Yarbrough claimed the final position inside of the top five.
Jackson Hise earned the Hard Charger Award courtesy of Knowles Race Parts and Bodies, LLC with his 12th-to-6th place run on Friday at Swainsboro. Kaede Loudy - aboard the Barry Wright House Car - was the highest finishing series regular and his seventh place effort vaulted him up to second in the latest Southern Nationals point standings. Sam Seawright, Beckham Malone, and Michael Page rounded out the top ten in round six of the miniseries.
“Dad was giving me some good signal sticks,” quoted Hedgecock in Schaeffer’s Oil victory lane. “This place has chewed me up and spit me out several times, but you know, just super tickled to death to get it done. Dad has been working his tail off on everything and I’ve got to thank everybody that has stuck with me!”
Hedgecock’s #23V BMF Race Car was powered by an Eagle Racing Engine with sponsorship in part from Base Fuels, Integra Shocks, Keyser Manufacturing, Circle H Services, CH Enterprises, Pro-Fabrication, Viper Motorsports, Arizona Sportswear, Majestic Mobile Detail, Winters Performance, Quickcar Racing Products, Top Notch Kustom Koncepts, Stakt, Wiles Driveshafts, Wieland, Wilwood Engineering, Allstar Performance, KRC, Delph Communications, Schaeffer's Oil, Hypercoils, XS Power, and Hoosier Racing Tire.
A strong field of 35 competitors helped fill the pit area at Swainsboro Raceway on a steamy Friday evening. Youngster Trey Mills went fastest in MRP Fantasy League Hot Laps with his quick time of 15.925 seconds, while Cory Hedgecock topped the speed chart in FK Rod Ends qualifying with his lap of 15.949 seconds. Cody Overton and Austin Smith won the pair of consolation races, while Jimmy Owens and Mike Benedum received series provisionals. Haiden Cowan utilized an emergency provisional to start shotgun on the feature field.
Next up on the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series presented by Coltman Farms Racing and fueled by Sunoco grind will be the 26th Annual ‘Rebel Yell’ on Saturday, July 19 at Screven Motor Sports Complex in Sylvania, Georgia. A $10,053 top prize will be on the line in a 53-lap main event. Jimmy Owens still finds himself on top of the heated series point standings, but only by ten markers over Kaede Loudy. Garrett Smith sits a close third in points, while Mike Benedum and Beckham Malone are tied for the fourth spot.
