Ford finishes fourth in Schaffer's Southern Nationals
For the final week on tour with the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals, Jensen Ford visited Tri-County Racetrack (Brasstown, N.C.) on Tuesday afternoon. After lowering the track record in time trials, Ford got turned around on a restart that dropped him to the tail. He rebounded to finish 10th.
On Thursday at Boyd’s Speedway (Ringgold, Ga.) for the Scenic City Classic, Jensen timed in third fastest in his group, which positioned him fifth on the starting grid for the A-Main. With $4,053 on the line, Ford faded three spots to register an eighth-place finish.
For the $10,053 prize on Friday at 411 Motor Speedway (Seymour, Tenn.), Ford followed up the fastest time in his group with a second-place finish in his heat. Losing three spots in the 53-lap feature, Jensen posted a ninth-place outing.
The following night at Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tenn.) for the Ray Varner Ford 53, Jensen ran into mechanical trouble early in the night that sidelined him from his prelim. Starting the $10,053-to-win A-Main in 21st, Ford marched through the field 11 spots to bring home a 10th-place finish. (Rick Neff photo)
On Sunday for the rescheduled rainout at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.) that was declared a non-points race, Ford broke an oil pump belt during his time trial session that forced him to hop behind the wheel of a Blount Motorsports No. 7m entry for the feature. Wheeling his way into the Top-10, Jensen passed 11 cars to finish sixth.
He finished in fourth in the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals points chase.
