Blurton Chasing IMCA Championship in 2017

Inside Line Promotions – QUINTER, Kan. (Feb. 9, 2017) – On the heels of his most successful season, Zach Blurton is ready for the next step in his young racing career.

Blurton recorded five feature wins and he claimed the IMCA National Rookie of the Year award as well as the United Rebel Sprint Series Colorado Region championship last year. He also finished second in the URSS Kansas Region standings and fourth in the series’ national standings. Additionally, he placed 10th in the 2016 IMCA national standings.

Following the overall success and riding the momentum from last year, Blurton is excited to announce he will chase the IMCA national championship in 2017.

“We are ready to step up our program in 2017 and go after the IMCA national championship,” he said. “We got a new trailer and toter and a new Eagle Chassis and have put together a pretty aggressive schedule with over 60 shows.”

The 2017 title chase begins this Saturday at Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore, Texas.

“I haven’t run in Kilgore in a couple of years,” he said. “The last time I was there I finished second so we’re excited to get the year started on a positive note.”

While Blurton has a new car ready to go, he is starting the year in “old reliable,” which is a 2005 JEI chassis.

“That car just seems to work,” he said. “We have a newer chassis that we tried to make just like it so we have a good backup. We will start the year with last year’s car and last year’s motor.

“Our engine builder’s (Jon Johnson) wife just passed away and our prayers are with him and we will make do with what we have. We didn’t have one problem with our Tornado Racing Engine all year.”

Blurton is also quick to credit his dad for getting the team ready for Saturday’s race.

“He has been working like 17 hour days, but he got the new trailer organized and ready to go,” he said.

Besides chasing the IMCA championship in his 305ci sprint car, Blurton hopes to compete in select 360ci events in 2017 as well.

“We are hoping to purchase a 360 engine to run a handful of shows, but if we don’t we will rent one,” he said. “I really want to race in that ASCS National Tour deal at Colorado Motorsports Park in Byers, Colo.”

With new equipment and an aggressive racing schedule on tap for 2017, Blurton will also hit the road as a newlywed. In December he and Allyson Blurton “tied the knot.”

“She loves racing and supports me and makes this whole deal a lot of fun,” Blurton said.
