SPRINTS LOOK TO PLACE A BOW ON THE 2018 SEASON

NCRA Sprint Car Points Battle Concludes This Saturday Night!

Park City, Kansas – October 8, 2018 – With inclement weather cancelling the next-to-last event of the season this past weekend, it all comes down to this coming Saturday night as the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products sprint car division closes out their 29th consecutive season at 81 Speedway in Park City.

And it doesn’t end there as four drivers have a shot at becoming 2018 series champion with just 140-points separating the top four in the standings. Coupled with drivers fifth through tenth in the standings jockeying to better their position in the final standings, the night sets up to be action-filled.

It will be the eighth event of the season at the “home” of the series with current series points leader Jeremy Campbell of Wichita claiming two of those victories, including the most recent event atop the three-eighths mile oval back on September 2.

Other drivers who have claimed victories this season at 81 Speedway include: Jonathan Cornell, Don Droud, Jr., Jake Bubak, Blake Hahn and Tim Crawley.

Coming into the night, three-time and defending tour champion Campbell holds a slim fifteen-point lead over J.D. Johnson, who is contention for his first-career series championship.

Former tour champion Droud, Jr. sits just 55-points out of the point lead while Norman, Oklahoma’s Danny Jennings still has a shot, with the two events remaining, as he sits 140-points behind Campbell.

Jake Greider (-250), Jeff Stasa (-230), J.R. Topper (-330), Fred Mattox (-585), Kaden Taylor (-880) and Ray Seeman (-1245) round out the top ten in points.

Through the eleven events that have been completed, ninety different drivers from sixteen states have competed in at least one event. Drivers having reached victory lane include Campbell, Jennings and Cornell (2), Johnson, Droud, Hahn, Crawley and Bubak.

Around the region, no 360-ci events are slated with several drivers already informing series officials their intentions on competing. Among them include former touring regular Jason Martin, formally of Liberal and now residing in Lincoln, Nebraska. Martin will be driving the #1B owned by Craig Bolz. Newly crowned two-time United Rebel Sprint Series 305-ci champion Zach Blurton of Quinter, Kansas, the 2012 NCRA sprint car rookie of the year, will drop in a 360-ci powerplant for the first time this season and will also be competing. Essex, Iowa driver Blaine Peterson is also slated to make the tow as well as other drivers in surrounding states.

This event will pay the series standard $2000 to win and $300 to start.

Gates for this Saturday night at 81 Speedway will open at 5:00 PM with race action set for 7:00 PM. Grandstand general admission is just $15 for adults while children eleven and under will be admitted, into the grandstands, for free. This will also be Business Appreciation Night at the speedway with all City, State and County employees being admitted into the grandstands for free as well as one of your guest. You must present your current badge or paystub, along with your ID, to be admitted.

81 Speedway is located north of Wichita on I-135 to exit 16, then 0.7 mile west on 77th street in Park City. More track information can be found on the track website race81speedway.com.
