B-Shepp completes Davenport hat trick

DAVENPORT, Ia. (July, 2020) – The Davenport Speedway was alive Tuesday night, with the third visit of 2020, by the World of Outlaws Late Models. It was time to get out the brooms at the dirt track as Brandon Sheppard completed the clean sweep of the Davenport events.
While Sheppard started fourth in the 50-lap main event, it was Iowa’s Chad Simpson that jumped out to the early lead. Simpson held the top spot until Cade Dillard went to the front on lap six. Sheppard would finally see the lead on lap nineteen. Three quick cautions near the midway point of the race, kept the field tightly packed.

Running the low side, Dillard came back to lead laps 36 & 37. Sheppard came back on lap 38, only to give the lead back on the next circuit. With the laps winding down and lapped traffic coming into play, Sheppard re-took the lead for good on lap 46 and drove to victory.

the Dillard finished second with fast qualifier Jimmy Owens taking third. Jimmy Mars started twelveth, and finished fourth. Chris Simpson completed the top five.

Owens, Dillard, Sheppard, and Chad Simpson won the heat races. Matt Furman won the consolation race. Owens set the pace in qualifying with a time of 13.979 seconds, a new track record.

IMCA SportMods were also in action. Twenty-three cars made the call for the feature. Pole sitter Jarett Franzen set a torrid pace through the first eleven laps. The leaders were into lapped traffic by lap seven. The caution flag flew on lap eleven, setting up a four lap shootout for the win. Franzen held serve and won the race handily. Matt Fulton followed in second with Ben Chapman third. Ryan Walker carried his left front to finish fourth, while Dustin Schram completed the top five.

Next up at the Davenport Speedway will be a Draw/Redraw night on Friday, August 7th. Late Models, Modifieds, SportMods, Street Stocks, and Sport Compacts will all be racing.
