Inside Line Promotions – YAKIMA, Wash. (Sept. 27, 2015) – Henry Van Dam capped the Dirt Fall Classic on Saturday at Central Washington State Fair Raceway by recording his 10th top-five finish of the season.

“Overall it was a good weekend,” he said. “Any time you come away with few broken parts it’s definitely a good weekend. We were able to log some laps to learn. We tried some stuff we normally don’t. Those are tough nights because you’re real unsure with what you’re doing and not everything you try will be a great result.”

Van Dam kicked off the Western Sprint Tour doubleheader on Friday by qualifying seventh quickest. He then finished third in a heat race despite a mechanical problem. That was good enough to lock him into the dash, where a third-place result lined him up on the inside of the second row for the 25-lap main event.

“We fought a few gremlins with some spark plugs Friday night, but we were able to get that solved,” he said. “We just missed a little for the feature as far as where the track would be fast. I really thought the top would come in. I tried for most of the feature to get it going, but we never got enough cars up there. I held my own on the top for a while. I lost a spot every three or four laps. I had to be perfect on the top to keep moving forward or at least hold my ground. We finally had to fall back to the bottom. Not many people were passing on the bottom, but people weren’t willing to try the top.”

Van Dam battled for a top five throughout the main event before ending with a sixth-place finish.

The weekend concluded on Saturday with Van Dam qualifying 11th quickest before winning a heat race. He then placed fourth in the dash to start the main event on the outside of the second row.

“The track started taking rubber in the dash,” he said. “We made some adjustments for the feature knowing the track was going to be rubber. We fell in where we were and that was pretty much it. For the most part everybody got in line on the bottom.”

Van Dam maintained a top five throughout the feature before posting a fourth-place result.

He returns to action this Saturday at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., where he has won four races this season.
