The Revival of RaceSaver Sprints in California: Back on the Loud Peddle!
Race fans, start your engines—because the IMCA California RaceSaver Sprints (CRS) are firing back to life at Merced Speedway this Saturday, March 29th! After being on life support since 2021, the series, formerly known as Western RaceSaver Sprints, is coming in hot under the new leadership of Alicia and Brian Garges.
This is no Sunday drive—Merced Speedway is a dirt-slinger’s dream, with high banks, long sweeping corners, and just enough chaos to make things interesting. Slide jobs, lap traffic battles, and elbows-up racing? Yeah, this track serves it up fresh every weekend! Known for its ‘hold my beer’ brand of IMCA racing, Merced hosts some of the wildest Modified, Sport Mod, and Stock Car action in California. Now, the RaceSaver Sprints are back to join the party!
Bringing RaceSaver Sprints Back from the Boneyard
Let’s be real—RaceSaver racing in the western U.S. has been running on fumes for the past few years. But instead of watching the series fade into the sunset, the crew at AB Motorsports grabbed the wheel and hit the throttle. Resurrecting a sprint car series ain’t for the faint of heart, but these folks put in the wrench time—attending workshops, locking in track dates, hunting down sponsors, and getting input from the people who make the show happen: the drivers.
And guess what? The work paid off. Quick Change Liquid Energy jumped in as the series' title sponsor, bringing some much-needed energy to the comeback effort. With 16 races scheduled across California at Merced, Santa Maria, Tulare, Bakersfield Speedway, and Antioch, the CRS Revival Tour is officially off the trailer and ready to rip!
Season Opener: Who’s Strapping In? Glad you asked!
With 15 drivers pre-entered for the March 29th season opener and more waiting on motors or finishing up their cars, we’re looking at a solid field to kick things off. In total, 22 drivers are committed to running with CRS throughout the season, which means fans can expect a stacked pit area and plenty of action every race night.
The last time the RaceSaver Sprints ran at Merced, Kyle Rasmussen put his blue and red #38N in victory lane. Kyle had plenty of challengers gunning for the top step, including RaceSaver regulars Connor Danell, Phil Heynen, Sean Quinn, Brooklyn Holland, Monty Ferriera, Lance Jackson, and Blake Robertson.
Among the pre-registered drivers ready to sling some dirt this weekend are:
Kyle Rasmussen
Davey Pombo
Anthony Pombo
Ty Hindman
Ty Henson
Phil Heynen
Koen Shaw
Lance Jackson …and more!
These racers will be battling for IMCA National and California Points, with several rookies hoping to steal the spotlight and claim the Rookie of the Year title.
Let’s Pack the Stands!
AB Motorsports and the CRS crew want to send a huge THANK YOU to Quick Change Liquid Energy and all the sponsors who jumped on board to make this comeback a reality, including BR Motorsports, Rugged Radios, Sidewaze Designs, and MyRacePass.
Now, all we need is YOU! If you’re anywhere near Central California, grab your friends, your family, your dog (dogs are welcome), and get to Merced Speedway this Saturday night. Stop by the pits, meet the drivers, grab a FREE Quick Change Liquid Energy, and enjoy some dirt in your beer, soda, or whatever you’re drinking!
RaceSaver Sprints are back, and they’re hammer down and hauling! Don’t miss it!
