Washed Out: MLRA "WINTER MELTDOWN" Cancelled At Tri-City Speedway
Pontoon Beach, Illinois (April 3, 2024) – For the second consecutive season, the Lucas Oil MLRA's season opening "Winter Meltdown" at the Tri-City Speedway has fallen victim to mother nature. Heavy storms rocked the Granite City, Illinois area late Monday and into Tuesday leaving behind in excess of 2" of rainfall and a waterlogged facility.
With saturated grounds and limited chances for drying weather heading into the weekend, track promotors Kevin and Tammy Gundaker were forced to make the difficult decision to cancel. "Looking out over the track this morning it's clear that there is no way we can put on a good show for the drivers and fans of the MLRA and Tri-City Speedway this weekend," commented Kevin Gundaker.
"Out of respect for the race teams, we just felt that making the early decision was the right thing to do in this situation. Being a racing family ourselves we know how expensive travel can be for the race teams, and this way it will allow drivers and fans alike a chance to make alternative racing plans for the upcoming weekend if they so choose."
"We look forward to having the MLRA back at Tri-City this fall for their annual Championship Weekend. It's always great being a part of crowning a champion, it's just unfortunate that we won't be able to jump start the season for MLRA this weekend," concluded Gundaker.
