MARS Championship Tours Set for 2024 Season Including New Events, New Venues, and New Big-Money Opportunities

FAIRBURY, IL (December 5, 2023) After a highly successful first-year campaign for the MARS Championship Tours under the ownership of Matt Curl, the 2024 season is already taking shape to be even bigger for competitors and fans alike. Many of the popular events for the tours in 2023 are back on the schedule in 2024 such as the Brownstown 100, Plowboy Nationals, Gary Gerstner Memorial, and Gary Cook Jr Memorial, but 2024 will also hold entail a great deal of change.

The newly formed Illinois Dirt Shootout, USA World 50, KerbyStrong 100, Illini 100 (for the MARS Modifieds), and the 2-night FALS Frenzy capping off the season for both tours, is just a taste of what is to come for 2024.

“With year one under our belts, we had a lot of data to comb through to begin the planning stages of 2024” stated MARS Series Director Jonathan Clayton. “One of the most reoccurring things I heard throughout the season is that the fans and teams appreciated how the schedule was crafted, so that was a priority for 2024: To continue making every weekend a minimum of two consecutive nights to help on travel.”

“Both schedules came together nicely this winter, with an overwhelming number of tracks reaching out about shows for 2024” stated Clayton. “Could we have had a 40-race Late Model schedule for 2024? Sure. But this series is meant to compliment all the fantastic shows this region already has to offer, without diluting the Dirt Late Model product by running head-to-head with each of them.”

The full 21-race MARS Late Model Championship Powered by FK Rod Ends, and 21-race MARS Modified Championship Powered by Summit Racing Equipment schedules are highlighted below.

MARS Late Model Championship Powered by FK Rod Ends

Friday, April 26 – Brownstown Bullring – Brownstown, IL – Sievers JCB Diggin’ Dirt 40

For the second consecutive season, the tour will kick off at the Josh & Nicki Carroll promoted facility that hosted some of the best races the state had to offer in 2023. Saint Marys, Ohio resident Tyler Erb topped a 37-car field to kick off the tour last season. As it was in 2023, this will be the first of three stops for the Late Model tour on opening weekend.

Saturday, April 27 – Peoria Speedway – Peoria, IL – Gary Swibold Memorial

For the first time since 2021, the MARS tour will roll into Peoria for the 2nd annual Gary Swibold Memorial paying $5,098-to-win for the main event. Sunday, April 28 – East Moline Speedway – East Moline, IL – MARS Invasion of East Moline

East Moline will mark the first track on the schedule in 2024 to hold their first ever event in the 25 years of MARS Late Model history. Friday, May 17 – Kankakee County Speedway – Kankakee, IL – Richard Craven Memorial

The inaugural Richard Craven Memorial will be held for the long-time Illinois racer that will also include the first ever visit by the MARS Modifieds to the Kankakee County Speedway. 2023 season champion, Jason Feger won the lone event at Kankakee in 2023.

Saturday, May 18 – Highland Speedway – Highland, IL

One of the most noteworthy events on the 2023 campaign was the stop at the World-Famous Highland Speedway in August. Jason Feger capped off the weekend of racing with a feature win in a tightly contested race with every inch of the racetrack used by competitors. Look for this kind of action to carry into 2024 as the track has added fresh dirt to the speedway over the winter in hopes to enhance the on-track racing product even more.

Saturday, May 25 – Fairbury Speedway – Fairbury, IL – Illinois Dirt Shootout

While Late Models will be on track for three nights during the inaugural Illinois Dirt Shootout weekend, their action will culminate on Saturday night for a $5,000-to-win bout. Memorial Day weekend 2023 at FALS saw Jason Feger top a 37-car field en route to another series win.

Sunday, May 26 – Spoon River Speedway – Lewistown, IL

Although Spoon River Speedway is under new management for the 2024 season, the speedway will continue to be the staple for Memorial Day and Labor Day Sunday shows for the MARS tours. 2024 will see Quincy, Illinois businessman Cloyd Barden at the reins of the speedway with many fresh ideas for the tracks 41st year of action including moving their night of weekly racing to Friday nights.

Sunday, July 21 – Adams County Speedway – Quincy, IL

Adams County Speedway has produced some of the best racing action in the region on Sunday evenings and will look to keep that up when the MARS tour rolls in on Sunday, July 21. Friday, August 9 – Sycamore Speedway – Maple Park, IL

For the first time in series history, a trip to the Sycamore Speedway will be taken in 2024. The .375-mile oval, located in northern Illinois, will be in operation for their 61st season and has more recently been home to Late Model specials by series such as the DIRTcar Summer Nationals, Dirt Kings, and MLRA stops. With one of the strongest fan bases in the state, and a racy but tricky track to conquer for invaders, this has the makings to be one of the most talked about events of the season.

Saturday, August 10 – Macon Speedway – Macon, IL – KerbyStrong 100

You can’t speak about the most talked about Illinois bullrings and not mention the Mighty Macon Speedway. In 2024 they will up the ante for the series’ first ever visit with a $10,000-to-win main event as the night will pay tribute to Kerby Damery and the KerbyStrong organization. This will mark the 10th running of the event and the largest of them all with the MARS tour invading. Kerby Damery’s passion for helping others lives on through the KerbyStrong Foundation. Even while he battled his own fight against cancer, Kerby remained motivated to help others by inspiring, educating, and supporting the community.

Friday, August 23 – Tri City Speedway – Granite City, IL – Gary Gerstner Memorial

For the second year straight, the MARS tour will sanction the 3rd annual Gary Gerstner Memorial.
