Miniakota Micro Sprint Series

Fick & Steen score victories, Ice Championships!

A lot was on the line heading into the final weekend of Miniakota Racing. 27 cars would check in the gate for the Miniakota Nonwing Nationals. Both the Nonwing series points and the Overall cup points were undecided with multiple parties in striking distance. Miniakota’s Winged series champion Derek Steen would go into chasing Cup leader Jacob Hughes for the Overall Cup championship. Steen & his 22s Lakefield Collision machine would take the victory as Jacob would become victim as his car spun and collected fellow drivers Chris Breen and Jody Rosenboom. The win would make it a virtual tie for the Overall cup points going into the final night. Hidden in the dust was past Miniakota Champion Shane Fick in his veteran 7F machine. Shane would show a solid 3rd place finish placing him in a strong contention for the Nonwing points championship going into the final night as he highlighted another Nonwing victory earlier in the season.

Night 2 would bring more of the same consistency for the 7F chariot of Shane Fick and the 22s of Derek Steen. The final night would leave the cards were they lay… Fick would find himself out front for the final night of racing and secure himself his spot as the 2015 Miniakota Nonwing Champion. Derek Steen would see good fortune finding himself runner up on the nights action giving him the Overall Miniakota Cup series points lead. The second place finish provided him a very small margin of 2 point over Jacob Hughes who again struggled with misfortune. Hughes who had a standout season was leading the overall points going into the final night. Doing so without ever winning a race during the season. His consistence would finally find some bad luck over the last few races. Hughes would finish an honorable Second place in Overall Miniakota Cup series points, Second place in the Winged series points, And a solid third in the Nonwing points. Derek Steen’s name will now be placed on the Cup series trophy along with the past Cup Champions that have come before him.

We thank all fans and drivers for the efforts and look forward to new season of racing with some huge changes on the horizon for the Miniakota Cup chasers.
