Taylor Takes Podium Finish at Sweetwater During ASCS Debut
Inside Line Promotions – ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. (Aug. 22, 2017) – Zac Taylor recorded a third-place finish during his ASCS Frontier Region debut last Friday at his home track of Sweetwater Speedway.
Taylor, who made his first-ever 360ci sprint car start in the summer of 2016 at Sweetwater Speedway, leased a 360ci engine from Mark Sweet for last weekend’s doubleheader.
“To come out against all those other cars in a higher division and be fast and get a podium finish was a dream come true,” Taylor said.
The competition began on Friday when Taylor started fifth in his heat race and finished third. That earned a spot in the feature redraw, in which he pulled the No. 3 to start on the inside of the second row for the A Main.
“I led the first two laps and got passed and was running great,” he said. “With about five laps to go Ned Powers passed me on the outside like I was sitting still. I didn’t think you could go that high. I was a little disappointed, but I got third against some pretty good drivers.”
The third-place finish gave Taylor a ton of confidence entering the weekend finale on Saturday.
“I went from fifth to third in my heat, which put us in the redraw,” he said. “I drew the No. 6 and was pumped up for the feature. We pushed off and were doing warm-up laps and I got taken out. Another car spun and tried to keep it going and ran into me and tore the torque tube out. It damaged suspension parts and our night was done. I was really disappointed, but that’s part racing.”
Unfortunately, Taylor’s night was over before the A Main began.
Taylor said the 305ci engine has been installed into the family-owned No. 86 sprint car and he plans to compete this Saturday and Sunday at El Paso County Raceway in Calhan, Colo., with the Colorado Alliance Tour.
