Rost Looks to Rebound in Wheatland

(Utica, NE) Racing can be a fickle sport; bringing with it struggle throughout the course of a season. No one can speak more truly of that for the 2015 race season than Tony Rost. Coming into action this weekend the Tony Rost Motorsports team has found itself searching for high points. His debut season of 360 competition has been trying to say the least.

Numerous rainouts have plagued many sanctioning bodies this season and the Nebraska 360 Sprint series and the WAR series have been no different, slowing the ability of the TRM crew to develop their program as well as ending hopes of valuable seat time those nights. According to Rost, “All the rain we’ve had, especially lately, has really slowed us down. We want to get to the track and keep getting better. We’re learning new things each night and just need one solid night to turn things around. But when it rains there’s not much we can do except for watch film from previous races and make sure the equipment is ready to go. The best thing for me right now is seat time and I’m just not getting enough.”

Also hampering the beginning of this season have been mechanical gremlins and a violent flip in wingless competition that left the team scrambling to build a new chassis when their primary car, a 2013 Maxim, was destroyed at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO. This has lead to the team making a switch to a new Triple X Chassis that has shown promise right out of the box.

“We’ve shown a lot of speed but don’t have the results to show for it, and that’s the frustrating part. We had a really good car last week at Junction Motor Speedway with the Nebraska 360 Sprint series, I held a commanding lead in the heat race, but cut it a little too close on fuel after a long caution and multiple restarts. That put us behind the 8 ball for the rest of the night and we didn’t make it out of the B main. These guys are too good to be throwing away chances like that. My crew works so hard on these cars for us to be fast. If we can just get all of our puzzle pieces together I have a feeling we’ll be competitive. It means so much to me that my sponsors Royal Purple, Schure Built Suspensions, Bully Brand, Ti22 Performance, Driver Websites, and MyRacePass have stood behind us through this adversity. The results are coming and I hope it will make them proud.”

Maybe those results will start this weekend, as Rost and the TRM crew return to Lucas Oil Speedway, the site of his best career non-wing sprint car finish. “Through the course of my career, I’ve raced at around 25 different tracks in 10 different states and Lucas Oil Speedway is by far the nicest facility we have the privilege of competing at. It’s about a 7 hour drive for us, but honestly, I’d do it every weekend if I could – it’s that much fun to race there. I always look forward to running with WAR series and am eager to get back into a non-wing car. The last time I ran non-wing was actually at Lucas Oil Speedway where I got upside down during qualifying and crashed hard enough that the halo bent and my seat hit the race track. Hopefully we can get the Royal Purple XXX/Ostrich car in the show and have a strong run.”
