Mark Dobmeier – A Win and a Trio of Top Ten’s!

July 26, 2013 – Mark Dobmeier and his Lunstra Motorsports team were able to get to the track all three nights last week, resulting in a win at River Cities Speedway to start the weekend. A top ten at Knoxville Raceway and a runner-up finish at Huset’s Speedway with the All Star Circuit of Champions wrapped up the weekend.

Dobmeier piloted his Senske & Son Eagle to the lead around the halfway point in Grand Forks, N.D. to pick up his tenth win overall on the year. The win was also his third of the year at the high-banked bullring and his 97th of his career there. The team has not lost a weekly race there all year long.
“The car was really good Friday night at RCS,” Dobmeier said. “We started inside row five and just continued to pick guys off and took the lead at about halfway. We really have things clicking up there, but I wish Mother Nature would have let us a few more times so far this year.”

The overnight haul was down Interstate 29 to the Lunstra shop for a few hours of sleep before heading to Knoxville for another tune-up for the upcoming FVP Knoxville Nationals. 32 cars signed in for the night and saw the car struggle in qualifying again with the 21st quickest time for the night. After winning his heat race, Dobmeier was lined up to start 17th on the grid. Once the race stayed green it went non-stop and “Dynamite” was on his way to the front. The charge would end up with a solid seventh place finish for the Big Trucks by Jimco Eagle.

“The car is so good once we get past qualifying,” Dobmeier said. “We are just struggling right now with the car for time trials. There are only a couple of weekly tune-ups left so we are going to do our best to turn around this qualifying since it is so important for the Nationals. The crew is working hard and we just have to find a little more speed for those two laps on the clock.”

The All Stars were on the dock the next night at Huset’s for their first of two trips to the short track. The night could not have started better for the Sioux Falls Ford #13 as Dobmeier would go out first in qualifying and he set quick time for the night at 10.861 seconds. After transferring through the heat, a young fan drew the second position for the six lap dash, which he won ahead of Ian Madsen.
The 30 lap feature for $5,000 to win had Dobmeier pacing Madsen for the early part of the feature.

However, the Aussie would get around him on the 12th circuit to take the point. Dobmeier would continue to chase him and almost had the race handed to him traffic after Madsen tangled with a few spinning lapped cars with two laps to go. Madsen was able to keep his car going after doing a full 360 spin, and would hold on to win after the restart. Mark would hold onto second for the Dammer Trucking car.

“I was trying to save the tires throughout the middle of the race,” he said. “It was pretty obvious it was going to lay rubber in turns three and four and it did with about 10 to go. Turns one and two were so slick and were fun to race through, but that is all we could race on with three and four laying rubber. Ian did a good job of keeping the car floored through that wreck and deserved to win. We were good, just not good enough to win.”

The weekend slate for races will stay the same with racing tonight in Grand Forks, Saturday at Knoxville, and ending the weekend on Sunday at Huset’s. There were plans for the 410 special at Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa tonight; however, work obligations for the crew will keep them in Grand Forks.
