Lucas Oil POWRi Southwest Lightning Sprint Cars Return To The Barona Speedway This Saturday Night

(Lakeside, CA, May 11, 2021) Nearing the middle part of its second season, the Lucas Oil POWRi Southwest Lightning Sprint Car Series returns to San Diego Counties Barona Speedway this Saturday night, May 15th. The race will be the sixth of the 13-race 2021 schedule. It will also be the first of four wingless races in 2021.

The level of competition has been high this year and that is evidenced by the fact that there have been five different winners in five races staged thus far. The Lakeside father and son trio of Brent, Dalton and Grant Sexton have all posted single victories. In addition to the Sexton’s, San Diego’s Parker Dumas and James Turnbull of Indio have captured the checkered flags at the other two races. The series' latest winner was Grant Sexton who bested his older brother Dalton and San Diego based David Bezio two weeks ago at Barona.

Heading into Saturday’s race, Bezio is still sitting on top of the 2021 season standings. Sixteen-year-old Grant Sexton is 21-points behind in second. Dalton Sexton, Grant’s 18-year-old sibling, is currently third giving Sexton Gatlin Racing a sweep of the top three spots. San Diego’s Wyatt Boczanowski and Matt Sotomayor of Alpine round out the top five.

Saturday’s race will be the last for the SWLS at Barona until June 12th. Normally a regular part of the track’s every other week schedule, the series will be taking off the May 29th race as many of the teams are headed to the Central Missouri Speedway for the 3rd Annual Lucas Oil POWRi Lightning Sprint Car Nationals.

Saturday’s race will be the first for the SWLS in 2021 without wings. The final eight events of the season will be split with four races run without wings and four with wings.

As well as the Southwest Lightning Sprints, the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Sport Compacts, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, Dwarf Cars, Mini Dwarfs and Junior Sprints will also be in action on Saturday.

As always, the gates will open at noon with racing at 5:00. Fans can bring coolers and barbecues if they wish. The track is located at 1754 Wildcat Road in Lakeside (92040). The track website is https://baronaspeedway.com/ and the office phone number is (619) 749-8115.
