Jenn Woods Wins First Rocky Mountain Lightning Sprint Feature of the Season

Belleville, IL. (08/31/2020) Returning to the quarter-mile surface of I-76 Speedway in Fort Morgan, Colorado, the POWRi Lucas Oil Rocky Mountain Lightning Sprints were in store for some great winged racing running the annual Don Flood Memorial this past Saturday evening. Side-by-side battles for the front were prevalent all night as series front-runner Johnny Boos would try to claim his seventh feature victory of the year, yet Jenn Woods would have other plans after finding the high-line to her liking. Woods would have her ride on a rail all night claiming the feature victory, her first win of 2020.

Early Heat Race action would see #57 Brady Balderson, #86 Jenn Woods, and #75 Junior Johnson all pick-up wins in each of their heat races. After a long rain delay, the track was tacky, fast, and smooth setting the stage for some exhilarating lap-times. When the final flags were waved at midnight, the POWRi RMLSA would see the seventh different feature winner of the season.

Jenn Woods #86, in her GSXR-powered Hyper, would fly to the point using a high-side route in the first corner of the second lap, never relinquishing the preferred positioning. Woods would not go without a challenge upfront though as the #24B Honda-powered Hyper driven by Johnny Boos would battle nearly every lap only to finish short in the runner-up spot. Honda-power would have a great showing for the night with the Fab Tech #9F driven by Andy Flood rounding out the feature’s podium finishers.

Next on the schedule for the POWRi Lucas Oil Rocky Mountain Lightning Sprints will be a return visit to I-76 Speedway in Fort Morgan Colorado on Sunday, September 6th competing in non-wing racing action. The always smooth and fast quarter-mile speedway will open Pit-Gates at 2:00 PM, Grandstands at 3:30 PM with Hot-Laps starting at 5:00 PM and racing to follow.

Sunday, September 6th will mark the fourth and final time in 2020 the POWRi Rocky Mountain Lightning Sprints will remove the downforce of the wings for racing excitement. Two of the three previous non-wing features have been won by Johnny Boos, with Blair Cooper gaining the edge at Honor Speedway earlier in the season.
