Dupo, IL (June 12, 2018) Last week, the POWRi National Midget League hosted its Sixth Annual Illinois SPEED Week. Kicking off Wednesday night at Belle-Claire Speedway in Belleville, the week started off with high car counts and intense racing. On Thursday, teams traveled down Highway 70 to the Fayette County Speedway in Brownstown, followed by a trip to Jacksonville Speedway on Friday. Unfortunately this is where the week ended as Mother Nature washed out Saturday and Sunday’s scheduled events. While the rain may have cut the week short, there was no shortage of action packed racing in the three short days. Kyle wheeled the Schuett Racing midget at all three events and the Runaway Chassis micro during Thursday night’s races. With car counts in the upper 40s each night, Kyle made gains all week long, ending the week with a great seventh-place finish on Friday night.
On Wednesday night, Kyle started his SPEED Week with a tough heat race, falling from third to a fourth-place finish. Based on passing points, Kyle started fourth in the B-main, where he finished fifth, just barely missing the transfer to the A-main on a wicked Belleville track. While not the night Kyle hoped for, it was just night one and the start of a busy week.
On Thursday night, Kyle competed with both the POWRi National Midget League and the POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro League at Fayette County Speedway in Brownstown. In micro action, Kyle started fourth and charged forward to win his heat race. Passing points gave Kyle a great starting position for the A-main. Kyle raced inside the top five and was sitting fifth when a long red flag stoppage halted the action. When the track opened back up to finish the race, unfortunately Kyle’s micro wouldn’t refire, bringing his micro night to an end and relegating him to a 14th place finish. In midget action, Kyle would once again pick up a heat race win, giving him a fifth-place starting position in the 30-lap A-main event. Racing hard and learning a lot about his Bullet by Spike Chassis, Kyle fell back to an 11th place finish.
Friday night saw the POWRi National Midgets heading north to the great track at Jacksonville Speedway. Kicking off the night, Kyle cruised from second to first in his heat race, picking up his third heat race win of the week. This put Kyle seventh overall in passing points and gave him a seventh-place starting position in the A-main. On an always racey Jacksonville track, Kyle raced wheel to wheel with the best in midget racing and finished his night with a great seventh-place run. While this race was supposed to be the third of five, it ended up being the last of SPEED Week as rain forced the cancellation of Saturday and Sunday’s events.
Three heat race wins, a lot of speed, and finishing up with a seventh-place run at Jacksonville marked a good SPEED Week for Kyle and his Schuett Racing team. Kyle will return to the seat of the #46 Runaway Chassis micro sprint this weekend in Marion for the Highbanks Hustle. One of the premiere micro races in the Midwest, this weekend’s event will bring out the best that micro racing has to offer. Kyle will look to put the Runaway Chassis micro at the front of the field once again.
SPEED Week competition is tough on everyone from drivers to fans, and especially on crew members and race teams. Kyle would like to send a very heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported him so far in 2018 and especially those who helped get the team through the rain shortened SPEED Week, especially a very big thank you to Jordan Gress, Chad Elliott, and Lucas Pejakovich for their help all week long.
