Drivers to Watch: Eleventh Annual POWRi National Midget Illinois SPEEDWeek

Belleville, IL. (6/11/24) Increasing the anticipation and excitement surrounding the rapidly approaching Eleventh Annual POWRi Illinois SPEEDWeek, top competitors from around the country will set their sights on the ‘Land of Lincoln’ from June 13-16 as four separate fast-paced facilities welcome the POWRi National Midget League.

Entering the illustrious Illinois SPEEDWeek with the POWRi National Midget League, a lot of intrigue looms as Cannon McIntosh chases his own history-making efforts. Winner recently at Doe Run Speedway, Cannon climbed into a tie with Brad Kuhn and Zach Daum for fourth on the all-time victory list with twenty-three victories. With seven SPEEDWeek wins, Series point-leader McIntosh also enters the Illinois journey as the three-time week-long champion, only one win away from tying Tanner Thorson(8) as the all-time win leader for the mini-series.

Rookie of the year contender Ashton Torgerson remains steady in the championship sitting second in the standings, Torgerson leads the league with three victories this season most recently picking up the feature win at the Coles County debut while hoping to continue the year of outstanding on-track achievements. Fellow KKM teammates also making the Illinois journey is set to include three-time winner Gavin Miller as well as 2023 POWRi Micro Champion Kale Drake,

Home-state talents and former league champions Karter Sarff and Jake Neuman always remain within striking distance while aiming for a title-clinching display over the week-long adventure. A recent winner at Lucas Oil Speedway Hayden Reinbold also throws his name into the ring of hopeful victors, as well as Australian talent Zoe Pearce making her league debut driving for Shannon McQueen, the always-fast Will Armitage, POWRi WAR feature winner Mitchell Davis driving for Team O’Dell, and six-time regional midget winner and stand-out in 2024 Alex Midkiff.

Joining the mix of competitors slated to enter the Eleventh Annual POWRi Illinois SPEEDWeek for the week of June 13-16 will also see a blend of traveling talents making the trek including Oklahoma stand-outs Tyler Edwards and Chris Andrews in the Miller Racing #95 as well as the return of nine-time feature winner and two-time champion Mike Hess. Other notable drivers competing in the week-long venture is also set to include rookie hot-shoe Gunnar Setser, 2022 Rookie of the Year winner Chase McDermand, open-wheel journeyman Kevin Newton, and more.

Looking back at the past ten seasons of POWRi Illinois SPEEDWeek competitions, Cannon McIntosh enters the three-time seasonal SPEEDWeek defending champion from 2023, 2022 and 2021 with Michael “Buddy” Kofoid winning the accolades in 2020. Logan Seavey (2018 & 2019) and Christopher Bell (2013 & 2015) are also two-time champions with Tyler Thomas (2014), Tanner Thorson (2016), and Michael Pickens (2017) all picking up the weekly racing POWRi National Midget Championships.

Diving into the POWRi Illinois SPEEDWeek win-count column, Tanner Thorson leads the competitors with eight feature wins over the past nine seasons with Cannon McIntosh quickly gaining seven victories over the past trio of seasons as Michael “Buddy” Kofoid garnered four. Logan Seavey and Michael Pickens remain tied for fourth all-time wins with three as Christopher Bell and Tyler Thomas each have two feature victories. Kyle Larson, Andrew Felker, Darren Hagen, Austin Brown, Zach Daum, Carson Macedo, Jake Neuman, Emerson Axsom, Daison Pursley, Bryant Weideman, and Jade Avedisian have all captured feature wins during SPEEDWeek action.
