Second Annual Thunder in the Valley, Mid-Season Championship

Belleville, IL – This weekend kicks off the Second Annual Thunder in the Valley at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri. Slated for Friday, July 13 and Saturday, July 14, the Second Annual Thunder in the Valley will showcase the POWRi Lucas Oil National, West, RMMRA and Outlaw Midget Leagues, and for their first appearance at Valley Speedway, the POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro League. Typically hosting POWRi midgets during the Open Wheel Showdown and Thunder in the Valley weekends, Valley Speedway will now add the POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro League.

Saturday night will also host the Mid-Season Championship Dash for Cash presented by Rod End Supply, featuring a shootout thriller for the top five in point standings from each the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League, POWRi Lucas Oil West Midget League and the POWRi Lucas Oil Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association.

In 2017 at the Inaugural Thunder in the Valley, Tanner Thorson and Spencer Bayston scored victories with the POWRi Lucas Oil National and West Midget Leagues, giving Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports and Toyota a weekend sweep. It was also another weekend sweep for the National Midget League in friendly competition with the West Midget League.

Heading into the Second Annual Thunder in the Valley, the National League has a leg up on the West League following Christopher Bell’s I-44 Riverside Speedway triumphs at the season opener, as well as Logan Seavey’s win at Valley Speedway and Tanner Carrick’s breakthrough victory at Lucas Oil Speedway.

In POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro League competition, Austin Schaeffer is on a terror, winning the most recent outing for the league at Macon Speedway. Holding the lead in the point standings, Schaeffer has a 140-point advantage over Harley Hollan. Joe B. Miller sits in third, 190-points out of the lead. With three feature wins a piece, Schaeffer and Miller have landed in victory lane more than any other driver to date in 2018. Second place Hollan has one victory to date, with that win coming at Fayette County Speedway during the second night of POWRi Illinois SPEED Week. With the Second Annual Thunder in the Valley being the inaugural appearance for the micros, it will be thrilling to see who stands tall when the dust settles.
