Sorensen Scores First Deer Creek Win

Spring Valley, MN (June 8)
By: Todd Narveson

The Deer Creek Speedway was back in action on Saturday after a week off last weekend. Another big field of 126-cars filled the pit area.

This week’s program was supported by Podeins Power Equipment, Bob The Bug Man, Randy & Sandy Norby along with Trom Transport.

The Kid’s Dreams Come True USRA B-Mods had 42-cars in attendance and they were split into two main events. In the first 18-lap race, Ben Moudry jumped to the early lead and was chased by Dustin Kruse.

Moudry would lead until lap 12 when Kruse made the pass to take over the top spot. Taylor Skauge was on the move into the top five after he started 12th.

A couple of yellow would slow the race, but Kruse prevailed for his second win of the year. Skauge drove all the way to second and Hunter Kennedy came from eighth to third. Moudry would finish fourth and Trevor Fecht was fifth.

The second feature started off with a three wide shot for the lead with Taylor Ausrud, Brody Shaw and Spencer Stock. Stock would take the lead while Ausrud, Shaw and Harley Dais battled for second.

A caution on lap seven would tighten the pack. Stock took off again while Jett Sorensen powered by Shaw for third and then Ausrud for second. At that point Stock held a good-sized lead.

Stock looked like he would take the win, but on lap 17 Stock erupted in smoke on the frontstretch as the white flag came out and his night came to a heartbreaking end.

Sorensen led the final lap to score his first win at Deer Creek. Dais finished second with Ausrud in third. Shaw would place fourth and Cole Bennerotte was fifth.

The Meadow Greens Golf Course was a dandy. Zac Smith took the lead off of row one and led until lap three. Nick Schwebach took the lead away with Parker Anderson also in the mix.

Schwebach and Anderson ran in tight formation with Dustin Gulbrandson close behind. Anderson would lead lap seven, but Schwebach fired back to lead lap eight.

Anderson would drive back to the lead on lap nine, but it was Schwebach back out front at the end of lap 10. Gulbrandson would pass Anderson on lap 13 and then chase Schwebach.

Gulbrandson would slip past Schwebach on lap 14 and pick up his third win in a row and ninth win overall. Schwebach was second, with Anderson in third. Ryan Goergen finished in fourth with Smith in fifth.

A solid field of 22-Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds took the green flag for their 18-lap main event. Nick Kramer led until lap fourth when Wyatt Boyum took over.

Christopher Deno ran the top grove and darted to second while Dan Wheeler was up in the mix too. Deno would drive around Boyum on lap seven to take the lead. The driver on the move was William Moelter who started 22nd and had cracked the top five.

A couple of yellow would slow the pace at lap 15, but it set up a wild restart. Boyum threw a slider on Deno in turn two and took the lead. However, Deno crossed him over, dove low and took the lead back in turn three.

Deno led the pack to the checkered flag for his second win in a row. Kadden Kath made a late race charge to second with Boyum in third. Boyum was later disqualified in post-race tech. Moelter ended up third and Wheeler was fourth and Kobie Kath moved to fifth. .

Twenty-one Rochester Chevrolet-Cadillac USRA Stock Cars answered the bell for their 20-lap feature. Andrew Bleess took the lead with Brady Williamson, Blake Adams and Derek Green right on his tail.

Williamson challenged Bleess for the lead on lap seven, but they touched and Bleess spun to trigger a caution. Williamson was deemed at fault and he exited the speedway with a flat tire.

Adams would then challenge Bleess for the lead. Adams took the lead, but Bleess would drive back by. Adams nabbed the lead for good on lap nine. Green slipped past Bleess for second on lap 11.

Adams would lead the rest of the way for his eighth win overall this season. Green finished second while Brayden Gjere got by Bleess for third. Brandon Hare rallied from 11th to finish fifth.

Keith Foss would take the early lead in the NAPA Auto Care Centers USRA Modified feature. Joe Chisholm quickly moved from row three to second.

It did not take Chisholm long to speed past for the lead when that took place on lap five. Josh Angst worked past Foss for second and Aaron Benson slipped past Foss for third.

Benson used the low groove to get by Josh Angst for second. Yellow flags slowed the race and eventually the race would have laps cut.

Chisholm would go on to his second win in a row while Benson finished in second. Angst ran a solid third with Zach Brom in fourth and Foss ended up in fifth.
