Inside Line Promotions – SPENCER, Iowa (Sept. 20, 2017) – Ryan Bowers didn’t let Mother Nature keep him down after turning his two-race weekend into one night of competition.

“I’m so sick of rain outs,” he said. “The last three out of four have been cancelled because of the rain. Thankfully we were still able to get one show in and we did pretty well.”

There was a great car count at Clay County Fair Speedway on Friday with the Upper Midwest Sprint Car Series. In fact there were so many cars that some were believed to be parked at the gas station across the street.

“It was pretty wild, but also great to see them have so many cars,” Bowers said. “Our normal race procedure was a little different because we only did heats and a feature. They took out the challenge race due to a track curfew.”

Bowers and the Seidenkranz Brothers Racing team started third in a heat race and finished second. That put the team seventh in points, which lined Bowers up seventh for the feature.

“The track was dry slick with a fast cushion,” he said. “Assuming everyone else was going to be on the cushion, we just tightened the car up and decided we’d try to run through the center.”

Bowers maneuvered from seventh to third place before a caution with only a couple laps to go was a huge help as the top-two drivers had a good distance on Bowers, who caught up on the restart and made a late-race pass for second.

“We probably would have needed a little bit more help to get to first, but overall it was a fun race and a lot of fun for our team,” he said. “There were some pretty big names in the top five of that race so it was awesome to be able to go head to head with them.”

Bowers’ season has concluded in the No. 64 car and he’s happy to go out with a good finish. Bowers said he hopes to get more racing in before the season comes to a complete close.
