Midwest Power Equipment & GRP Motorsports Add Money to Deer Creek Race
With rainy weather forcing the cancellation of the race at the Red Cedar Speedway on May 27, the two primary UMSS series sponsors, Midwest Power Equipment and GRP Motorsports, have decided to move the bonus money slated for Red Cedar to the Saturday night June 25 event at the Deer Creek Speedway. Midwest Power Equipment will be adding $1,500 to the top two finishing positions in the feature race while GRP Motorsports kicks in an extra $800 to positions three through seven. The 25 lap UMSS feature at Deer Creek Speedway on June 25 will pay as follows: 1) $2,000, 2) $1000, 3) $700, 4) $600, 5) $500, 6) $400, 7) $300, 8-20) $200.
"Last year the UMSS show at Deer Creek in conjunction with their Pink-out Night was very successful, and we are looking to build on that success this year," stated Greg Parent from GRP Motorsports. "It is our hope that with the increased payout we can draw a few extra cars that normally do not run with the UMSS on a regular basis," continued Greg. Jerry Richert, Jr. capped off a great evening in 2015 to win the inaugural appearance by the UMSS winged sprint cars at Deer Creek driving the potent Donnohue Designs sprinter. Richert then did 34 push-ups in Victory Lane to fit right in with the the Breast Cancer Awareness theme for the evening much to the delight of the large crowd on hand. Richert, a three-time UMSS Champion, won the UMSS opener in the same car this season, and there is a good chance he will return to Deer Creek to try and make it two straight at the popular southeastern Minnesota track.
In addition to Richert, other drivers expected to take a shot at the $2,000 top prize include several past UMSS Champions: Ryan Bowers (2015), Chris Graf (2013), Cody Hahn (2010) and Leigh Thomas (2009). Other UMSS drivers expected are Tony Norem, Jamey Ogston, Dean Brown, Anna Hippe, Jake Lempelius, Reed Allex, Jeff Pellersels and Jared Goerges. Last year several Sprint Invaders from Iowa and a few Jackson area cars were on hand as part of a solid 23 car field. Make plans to attend an exciting night of sprint car racing at the 3/8 mile banked dirt oval located between Racine and Spring Valley on Highway 63 south of Rochester.
