UMSS Honors Top Drivers At Banquet
The Upper Midwest Sprint Car Series recently honored the top drivers from the 2014 racing season at their annual awards banquet held at the Hampton Inn in Shoreview, Minnesota. The largest turnout yet filled the banquet room to capacity. A great time was had by all, and featured guest speaker Tom Savage did an outstanding job of entertaining the crowd with various racing stories.
Pictured in this photo are the top five drivers in the 2014 UMSS winged sprint car division point standings. From left to right is third place finisher and rookie runner-up Jamey Ogston of Duluth, fifth place finisher Anna Kouba of Lino Lakes, 3-time series Champion Jerry Richert, Jr. of Forest Lake, second place finisher and Rookie of the Year Ryan Bowers of Ham Lake, and fourth place finisher Reed Allex of St. Cloud. GRP Motorsports provided trophies and point fund checks for the top five drivers in the point standings and the top two rookies. The point championship was determined by taking the top 19 races out of 21 shows.
In 21 events, the UMSS winged sprints had ten different drivers win feature races in 2014. The weather claimed six events. The leading UMSS feature winner with seven wins for a career high 31 UMSS victories was Brooke Tatnell of Forest Lake and Australia. Brooke's brother-in-law and series champion Jerry Richert, Jr. won three times. Completing an extremely impressive rookie season, Ryan Bowers earned three feature wins as well. Lee Grosz of Hardwood, ND picked up two wins. Winning one feature during the season was Cody Hahn of Oak Grove, Skylar Prochaska of Lakefield, Kaley Gharst of Decatur, IL, Scotty Thiel of Sheboygan, WI, Rick Kobs of Deer Park, WI, and Davey Heskin of St. Michael.
