UMSS GRP Past Champions Bonus Announced
By: Greg Parent, UMSS Media Director
Stillwater, MN

Entering their third season of 360 winged sprint car racing action, the Upper Midwest Sprintcar Series (UMSS) is pleased to announce that GRP Motorsports will provide several bonus awards at selected UMSS events throughout the 2011 racing season involving the two previous UMSS champions. 2009 UMSS Champion Leigh Thomas and 2010 UMSS Champion Cody Hahn will have the opportunity to earn some additional bonus money at several UMSS shows in 2011. "I wanted to provide a little extra incentive for the two previous champions as a way of thanking them for their past support and giving them the chance, as a former champion, to earn some bonus money," stated Greg Parent from GRP Motorsports.

The bonus will work in this manner. If both Leigh Thomas and Cody Hahn are present the night the bonus is in effect, each of them will have the opportunity to earn an additional $300 if they win the feature, $200 if they finish second, or $100 if they finish third through fifth in the feature race. If neither driver finishes in the top five in the feature, a $100 bonus will go to the highest finisher amongst themselves. At least one driver will have the opportunity to earn a minumum $100 bonus if both are on hand, and the potential exists for a maximum of $500 to be paid out if they both finish in the top two spots in the feature race. If only one of the two past champions is on hand, the first and second place bonuses will still be in effect, but the $100 bonus will only be earned if the driver finishes third through fifth in the feature race.

The GRP Past Champion Bonus will be in effect at the first three scheduled UMSS racing events on April 15 & 16 at Elko Speedway and the April 30 show at Cedar Lake Speedway. The May 7 show at Ogilvie Raceway and the May 13 show at Chateau Speedway will also have the bonus in effect. Additional race nights will be announced as the season progresses. "The idea for this bonus is to have it in place at several of our regular purse shows instead of at special events", indicated Greg Parent. Look for details to be released soon regarding the 2011 UMSS Rookie of the Year program and some additional bonus awards in place for past UMSS rookie contenders. The GRP Sweet Sixteen Bonus from last year will be incorporated into the point battle this season with each competitor being allowed to throw out two shows in determining the 2011 UMSS Champion. Details on the UMSS GRP Points Bonus will also be released shortly.
