THOROLD, Ont. (September 7, 2024) - Shone Evans scored his first 360 Sprint Car win on Saturday night at Merrittville Speedway.
Shone Evans and Josh Hansen started on the front row for the 25 lap A-Main. Evans led early from the pole, but had his progress slowed by traffic shortly before the halfway point in the feature. Hansen closed to within a car length before a caution flag fell when Tyeller Powless spun and was miraculously untouched as the field scrambled to get by.
Evans took off again on the restart, this time with just enough laps left to build a margin without catching up to traffic again. The win marked the first in 360 Sprint Car competition for Evans, who is a former champion in Crate Sprint Cars. Hansen settled for second, while Cory Turner took third, Ryan Turner finished fourth, and Allan Downey rounded out the top five.
Dylan Westbrook claimed the Ackland Insurance Quick Time Award, while Kelsey Ivy was The Drivers Project Hard Charger Award winner.
Next on the SOS schedule is the 20th Running of the Northern Sprint Car Nationals at Ohsweken Speedway on September 13 and 14.
