Labour Day Classic Weekend Bigger Than Ever with $2000 to Win Feature on Sunday!

BRIGHTON, Ont. – August 28, 2017 – One of the season highlights for the past fourteen years, the Ultramar Labour Day Classic weekend features back-to-back nights of Southern Ontario Sprints 360 Sprint Car racing. This year is expected to be as big as ever as for the 15th annual event Sunday’s purse has been increased to $2,000.00 to win thanks in part to Lawns We Do for kicking in some bonus money. The increased purse is the largest purse ever for a Labour Day Classic Weekend!

The first ever Labour Day Classic Weekend was held in 2003 with the two most winningest drivers in both Brighton Speedway Sprint Car history and SOS history picking up wins on that weekend. Glenn Styres won on the Saturday and Rick Wilson picked up the win on Sunday. While Glenn will not be able to drive this weekend as he suffered a concussion earlier in the season the Styres race team will be in full force with Dylan Westbrook and Holly Porter behind the wheel! Rick is leading the feature win column in Brighton Speedway feature wins (22), SOS feature wins (33) and Labour Day Classic feature wins (8) and will be hoping to expand on these totals.

Three points races remain on the Southern Ontario Sprints 2017 schedule, including this weekend’s doubleheader, and Oakland, Ont. teenager Dylan Westbrook sits at the top of the standings with a commanding lead backed by his 7 wins in 8 events so far this season. The only other driver to pick up a win this season is Picton’s Chris Jones who won at Brighton back on June 17th. Shawn Sliter and Josh Sliter sit second and third, respectively, in the championship standings. Frank Baranowski and Chris Jones, complete the top-five in the standings entering the weekend.

Saturday’s race will feature the Four Wide Design ‘Dream Come True Dash’. The race will exclusively feature drivers who have never earned a checkered flag in a Sprint Car.  A fun event that guaranties to make one drivers dream of winning in a Sprint Car come true.

The weekend concludes on Sunday with the Brighton Speedway Kids Klub Fun Zone in the afternoon between 4 pm and 6 pm in the courtyard with a giant bouncy castle and face painting. SOS Drivers will have their sprint cars on display and you can meet all the stars up close such as Dylan Westbrook, Shawn Sliter and Warren Mahoney signing autographs for fans young and old.   Racing for the weekend concludes Sunday night with the Simon Petit Memorial wingless dash. Drivers will have the opportunity to take the wing off their cars for a 10-lap wingless Sprint Car dash.

Saturday’s show will start at the regularly scheduled time of 7:00pm with spectator gates scheduled to open at 5:00pm. Sunday’s event begins one-hour early at 6:00pm with gates to open at 4:00pm. Hot laps start one hour prior to race time each night.

Adult general admission is $20 for each night of racing. Family passes are $55. Seniors and Youth are $18 each, Children 7-12 are $5 and Children 6 and under are always free. There will be a weekend pass available as well; $35 for Adults, $32 for Youths & Seniors and $3 for Children 7-12. For additional details, please visit www.brightonspeedway.ca.
