STYRES WINS SECOND IN A ROW WITH SOS

by Greg Calnan (Friday, July 3, 2015) – Ohsweken, Ontario – The Southern Ontario Sprints traveled to the Ohsweken Speedway for their one and only stop at the 3/8 mile clay oval to take on the home track Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Cars. It was a special night for Glenn Styres as he was inducted along with his family into the Ohsweken Speedway Wall of Fame, and went on to win his second straight SOS race, and third win in a row in a Sprint Car.In the 25 lap A-Main Styres, along with Corr/Pak point leader Todd Hoddick led the 22 car field to the green flag. Both used the outside line around the track to pull away from the rest of the field while Keith Dempster ran in third around the inside groove. The top three broke away and began to work through lap traffic in the early laps.

The race was slowed by two red flags, as both Jamie Turner and Warren Mahoney were involved in separate rollovers in the middle stages of the race. Both drivers were able to walk away uninjured, but with battered race cars.

At the front Styres led every lap and kept Hoddick at bay. On a late race restart, SOS point leader Mitch Brown grabbed the second spot away from Hoddick for a moment, but had to settle for a third place finish when the race ended. Brown, along with Chris Steele and Cory Turner, raced hard all feature long and would complete the top five.

For Styres it was his 45th career sprint car win, and 3rd in a row after wins at Brighton on June 20th and Ohsweken on June 30th.
