ASCS Regional Showdown Headed For Ralph Henson Memorial At I-30 Speedway
Bryan Hulbert – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (September 9, 2019) Gearing up for a rematch at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. the Stealth Recovery ASCS Mid-South, American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner, and ASCS Lone Star Regions will converge on the quarter-mile oval on Saturday, September 14.
A repeat lineup of the Regional Showdown that took place on March 29, the night’s glory went to Harli White after a wild last-lap shootout with Sam Hafertepe, Jr. and Wayne Johnson.
The last chance for teams to get tuned up for the COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tire on Friday, October 4 and Saturday, October 5, this Saturday’s $2,000 to win, $300 to start showdown is also offering Lap Money for the leader of Saturday’s 30-Lap A-Feature. Purchased for $50 a lap, the leader will get $25 for each lap led, with the other $25 donated to help Grady Chandler, who was injured in July during a Non-Wing event in Oklahoma.
The 12th running of the Ralph Henson Memorial, the 2018 run was topped by Derek Hagar. Since Gary Wright’s win in 2008, a total of nine drivers have added their names to the list of winners. Jeff Swindell topped the event in 2009 with Zach Pringle winning the next two years. Dale Howard in 2012 was followed by Cody Gardner in 2013, Jordon Mallett in 2014, and Tim Crawley in 2015. Derek Hagar’s first win in the Henson came in 2016 with Tony Bruce, Jr. keeping the Marion, Ark. shoe from going back-to-back in 2017.
Going into this weekend, Tim Crawley leads the Stealth Recovery ASCS Mid-South standings by 70 markers over Ernie Ainsworth. In the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products, the top spot belongs to Sean McClelland by 265 over Fred Mattox. The ASCS Lone Star Region is the closest with Casey Carter by 21 over Tony Bruce, Jr. and only 24 over Wayne Johnson.
Saturday, September 14 opens at 5:00 P.M. with racing at 7:30 P.M. (CT). Admission is $20, Youth kids 6-12 get in for $1 with paid adult, and kids five and younger get in free. More information on “Hammer Hill” can be found at http://www.i-30speedway.com or by calling (501) 455-4567.
