Friday Night Jacksonville Triumph Gives Nienhiser 11 Wins on the Season

PETERSEN MEDIA: Paul Nienhiser’s standout season continued over the weekend as the Chapin, IL driver continued his career year by claiming his 11th feature event win of the season as he parked Caleb Wankel’s No. 5 entry in victory lane at Jacksonville Speedway.

“We ran Kokomo on Wednesday night in my car as I still try and learn the way around a non-wing car, and I woke up Thursday kind of sick and was going to take the weekend off,” Nienhiser said. “Friday morning we decided to take Caleb’s car to Jacksonville last minute and it worked out really well for us.”

Lining up fourth in his heat race on Friday night, Nienhiser would carve his way forward and pick up a second place finish. With the inversion taking place, Nienhiser would find himself in the second row to start the feature event as he chased after his 11th win of the season.

Building his momentum in the opening laps, Nienhiser would get out to the lead early and never look back. Just as he has done the last three races in the Caleb Wankel machine, Nienhiser would leave the field behind as he picked up his fourth consecutive win with the team and his 11th overall in 2019.

Earlier in the week, Nienhiser took his CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil/Mason Sound/Innovative Design backed No. 9x machine to Kokomo, Indiana to take part in the opening night of the Kokomo Smackdown with the United States Auto Club.

In his first visit to the track, Nienhiser was thrown to the wolves quickly as hot laps and time trials would be one in the same on this night. Timing in sixth fastest in his group, Nienhiser was pleased with the effort considering, and began preparations for his heat race.

Focused and logging more laps in a non wing car, and learning what he needed to do on his car to make adjustments, Nienhiser would continue to get a feel for things in his heat race though it would see him slip back to a seventh place finish.

Moving into the ‘C’, Nienhiser would have a tense moment as he bicycle his machine but was able to keep it going the right direction as his second place finish moved him into the semi.

From the 22nd starting position, Nienhiser would continue to gain more confidence against the tough USAC field as the track continue to ‘blow off’ lap by lap. With the slick conditions, Nienhiser would slice and dice his way forward as he would close Wednesday night with an 11th place finish in the ‘B’.

“Wednesday night was a good night for myself, because I learned a ton on what I need to be doing with my car if I want to run the non-wing stuff more competitively,” Nienhiser admitted. “There’s more stuff I need to be doing to the car set up wise, and there’s definitely some different components I need to be utilizing, so I am already working on that before our next non wing outing.”

Nienhiser would like to thank CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil, Mason Sound, Innovative Design, Bradshaw Custom Pumping, Wessler Bros. Agency, Bob Hawks Auto Body, Littleton Storm & Timber, Fierce Herbicide, Sunstoppers Window Tinting, Engler Machine and Tool, FK Indy, Rider Racing Engines, Kaeding Performance, Smith Titanium Products, Vortex Wings, Signature Signs and Design, and Team Simpson for their continued support.
