Eastern Storm Takes Tracy Hines to Five Tracks in PA and NJ
By Tracy Hines Racing PR
NEW CASTLE, Ind.—June 1, 2015— The months of June and July are sprinkled with “Speedweeks” all across the country. One of those, while not actually called a “Speedweek” is the Eastern Storm Tour for the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series, which marks a five-race stretch in six nights for the series on the East Coast. Tracy Hines has raced in each of the previous six editions of the Eastern Storm Tour and will make it seven-for-seven this week as he heads to Pennsylvania and New Jersey in The Carolina Nut Company DRC.
The 2015 edition of the Eastern Storm Tour opens for the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series on Tuesday, June 2 at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pennsylvania. The series then heads to Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Penn., on Wednesday, June 3. Action shifts to New Egypt Speedway in New Jersey on Thursday, June 4. After a day off, the Eastern Storm Tour rolls into Port Royal Speedway in Pennsylvania on Saturday, June 6. The five-race mini-series concludes on Sunday, May 7 at Susquehanna Speedway Park in Newberrytown, Pennsylvania.
“The Eastern Storm is always a great test to see how ready we are for Indiana Sprint Week,” said Hines. “We have run fairly well at most of the tracks out east and with how we’ve been running the last few weeks, we should have something for them. For the fans out there, it’s pretty cool that they get to see our style of racing, as they are accustomed to only seeing the winged cars normally.”
Hines has made six starts at the third-mile Grandview Speedway in his career. He finished fourth in his debut at the high-banked oval in 2009 and followed that up with sixth- and ninth-place finishes in 2010 and 2011, respectively. Last season, Hines finished sixth at Grandview.
The native of New Castle, Indiana finished second at Lincoln Speedway in 2014. He has made three starts at the three-eighths-mile at the Pigeon Hills oval. He finished fourth in 2011 and was 12th in his debut at the track in 2010.
Hines ran sixth at New Egypt Speedway last season. In his career, the 2002 Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series champion has made three starts at the 7/16-mile. His best finish came in 2011, when he ran fourth. He was seventh in his first trip to New Egypt in 2010.
The veteran driver has raced three times at the sprawling half-mile Port Royal Speedway, dating back to 2012, when he finished fourth. Hines ran sixth at Port Royal in 2013 and was 23rd last season.
Susquehanna Speedway Park has hosted the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series each of the last two seasons. Hines finished third in 2003 in the series debut at the track and finished 12th last year at the four-tenths-mile.
Last weekend, Hines finished third with the Honda USAC National Midget Series at Plymouth Speedway in Indiana, during the Midget Maynia event on Friday, May 29. He started the night as the fast qualifier of the 22 entries and finished second in the first heat race. The second night of the event was rained out. With his third-place finish, Hines moved into the lead in points as he chases his first Honda USAC National Midget Series title.
“We just weren’t quite as good as I expected we’d be after the heat race,” said Hines after the race. “It just didn't really respond, so I had to drive the wheels off of it just to try to keep with those guys. It would be good for stretches, and then not as good as we built air pressure. I’m obviously happy with third, but I thought we should have been in the mix a little more as good as we were earlier tonight.”
Entering the Eastern Storm Tour for the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series, Hines is seventh in points, on the strength of 10 top-10 finishes, including eight straight.
