After tough night at Plymouth, Pokorski Motorsports looks for luck to turn

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) May 18, 2021 – On an evening when both Paul and Alex Pokorski took to The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. for the third Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car event of the 2021, luck turned out not to be on either’s side as mechanical issues plagued Alex in heat race action and a major incident after the checkered flag in the A main soured a solid night for Paul.

Alex, behind the wheel of the Pokorski Motorsports No. 4 car, and Paul, who made his debut behind the wheel of Spyder Akright’s 53A machine, joined a strong field of 34 PDTR 360 Sprint Car drivers signed for the event.

The strange night started on a good note for Paul in the third 10-lap PDTR 360 Sprint Car heat race. After starting sixth, the 29th year driver worked his way up to fourth on the opening lap on the lightning fast track surface and held off a persistent challenge from Ben Schmidt to secure fourth at the checkered flag and earn a spot in the 22-car A-main field.

Things did not go as well for Alex, who started fifth in the fourth 10-lap 360 Sprint Car heat race before suffering a suspension failure in turn three of the opening lap. The front-end issues forced Alex to retire to the pit area and he was scored eighth in the race.

After lining up eighth in the second 12-lap B Main, Alex dropped back to ninth on the opening lap before settling in to work the high groove of the fast and tacky third-mile clay oval. On lap 3, Alex moved in to challenge Tom Kreutz for eighth. Four laps later, Kreutz spun in turn four to bring out a caution flag.

Alex restarted eighth and quickly worked his way past Katelyn Krebsbach into the seventh spot. The second-year driver held the spot over the final five laps to finish his second night of action in 2021 with a seventh-place B-main finish.

“I’m not entirely sure what happened in the heat race, Alex said. “I came in on the brakes and must have caught a rut the wrong way. Some radius rods bent and I wasn't able to continue. The B main went fairly well, but it was hard to make up ground on a fast track like we had. We will regroup and go again next week. Hopefully, we can get some good luck.”

Paul rolled off from the 12th starting position in the 25-lap 360 Sprint Car A main and ran inside the top 15 throughout the non-stop race. With a light rain falling on the track, the 2014 Midwest Sprint Car Association Masters Series champion finished the race, which was completed in a PDTR 25-lap 360 Sprint Car A main record pace of five minutes and 31 seconds, with a 15th-place showing in a race won by Justin Miller.

Seconds after taking the checkered flag, Paul was forced to take drastic measures to avoid a rapidly slowing car, which resulted in him making heavy impact with the turn one wall and flipping the 53A car. Paul was able to emerge from the badly damaged car under his own power.

“The night went pretty good for me and I was happy with everything except the very end result, obviously,” Paul said. “It wasn't perfect and I learned a few things I think could have helped it going forward, but it's irrelevant now as the car was totaled.”

The Pokorski Motorsports will look for some good luck when it returns to action for a Midwest Sprint Car Association doubleheader this weekend.

On Saturday, May 22, the team will head to The Plymouth Dirt Track .at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. with Alex Pokorski again slated to be behind the wheel.
