Pokorski Motorsports endures challenges on All Stars night at Plymouth

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 30, 2019 – Paul Pokorski and his Pokorski Motorsports team rode the wave of an up and down night of action in a special weeknight Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car racing program in support of the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions versus Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association Challenge event at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Thursday, July 25.

With a strong field of 34 PDTR 360 Sprint Cars signed in for the program, Pokorski drew the fourth starting spot in the second 10-lap heat race. On lap 2, Pokorski used the low groove of the slick, smooth and wide racing surface to pass rookie Tyler Tischendorf for third.

One lap later, Pokorski worked past rookie Justin Erickson to second on lap 3. The 27th year driver then persevered through a pair of caution flags to wrap up an A-main transfer spot with a second-place finish.

After lining up sixth in the 25-lap A main, Pokorski struggled to find traction on the ultra-slick track as he fell to back to ninth on lap 4. One lap later, the first of two caution periods appeared when Spyder Akright spun in turn four.

Following the restart, Pokorski slipped to 13th on lap eight. He held that spot for the next 13 laps before a red flag came out on lap 21 when Brandon McMullen flipped in turn two. After restarting 12th, Pokorski fell back one spot over the final four laps to finish 13th in the race, which was won by Travis Arenz.

“It seemed to be a déjà vu type of scenario for us,” Pokorski said. “Most the year we have been good in the heat races and then struggled or been so-so in the feature. I’m not sure what's missing, but it’s frustrating. I'd compare it to a hitting slump in baseball. On the positive side, the event was great overall.”

The Pokorski Motorsports team is preparing for another Midwest Sprint Car doubleheader weekend on Friday, Aug. 2 the Outagamie Speedway Powered by EWSC Racing in Seymour and Saturday, Aug. 3 at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis.

The Aug. 2 event at Seymour will honor Pokorski Motorsports and MSA Sprints supporter Dave “Hagar” Nelson with a special memorial night program featuring Hagar’s famous dice roll. Feature winners in all divisions will do a dice roll in victory lane for a chance at bonus cash. The remaining cash will go to a lucky draw in that division. Racing is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

“I love the facility at Seymour and I am excited to go back to honor our good friend Hagar Nelson, who is a guy who did so much for racers in our area, with an event in his honor,” Pokorski said. “The racing will be great. We will keep on swinging and hope circumstance improve.”

The Aug. 3 program at Plymouth is autograph night sponsored by Hopf Farms, which will distribute draw string bags and checkered flags to the first 250 kids. It will also be past champions night with Pokorski scheduled to be recognized for winning three Winged Super Modified championships at the Plymouth track. Hot laps begin at 5:30 p.m. with racing scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
