Daggett Wins Non-Wing Feature

Lake Odessa, MI – Dustin Daggett (Portland, MI) rolled into I-96 Speedway tonight and did double duty, running the Great Lakes Traditional Sprints presented by Comp Cams and the Great Lakes Super Sprints presented by Engine Pro and ARP races. Daggett qualified 2nd quick, won the Beacon & Bridge Heat 2 and capped off the night leading all 20 laps in the feature to bring home a GLTS feature win.

On a beautiful summer evening, GLTS made their first appearance of the season at I-96 Speedway near Lake Odessa, MI with 16 cars. The cars fired on the track, putting heat in the motors, ran hot laps and then lined up for group qualifying.

The track was tacky and smooth when GLTS rolled on the track to qualify. As qualifying ended, Steve Irwin (Fenton, MI) sat on top of the board with quick time, running a 16.781 second lap. Daggett was 2nd quick with a 16.907 second lap, with Jay Steinbach (Hudsonville, MI), Mike Galajda (Fenton, MI) and Mike Astrauskas rounding out the top 5.

In the Engler Machine and Tool Heat 1, Astrauskas edges out Steve Irwin and wins the heat. S Irwin, Cody Howard (Millington, MI), Brian Ruhlman (Clarks Lake, MI) rounded out the top 5 spots.

Daggett took the checked flag in the Beacon & Bridge Markets, bring home his 2nd non winged feature win. Galajda took second, with Max Frank (Williamston, MI), Joey Irwin (Davison, MI) and Gary Hayward (Auburn Hills, MI) rounded out the top 5 spots.

As the feature rolled out, the vocal, socially distanced crowd would soon be intertained. As the green flag flew and the cars roared to life, Daggett beat the field into turn one. As the field went around for the 2nd lap, Steinbach literally flew off the backside of turn 2 bringing out the caution. Steinbach was able to get pushed back on the the track and took his new spot at the tail of the field.

On the restart, Daggett again led the field into turn 1 and settled into a comfortable spot…running the rim of the track. Behind Daggett, S Irwin and Ruhlman chipped away at cars and moved up 4 spots each. As the field clicked off 18 green flag laps, the flagman showed the white flag (meaning 1 lap to go). Daggett took the checked with S Irwin roughly 8 seconds behind. Ruhlman, Astrauskas and Galajda round out the top five finishers.
