Mallett Garners Two More Top Fives During USCS Action

Inside Line Promotions – BREMEN, Ala. (June 11, 2018) – Jordon Mallett continued to show great consistency last weekend as he picked up a pair of top-five finishes during a USCS Series doubleheader to maintain the lead in the series standings as he chases his second straight championship.
On Friday, Mallett hit the track at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, Miss., opening the night by winning the dash. He then ran second in a heat race. Mallett started the main event on the outside of the front row and he fell back a few spots early before clawing his way back to a podium finish on a track that was very tough to pass on.
“It looked pretty promising early on,” Mallett said of the track surface. “The track was good for the dash and the heat race. By the time feature came around, it narrowed up and everyone ran right around the bottom. There wasn’t really any passing. We started on the outside and got in the marbles on the initial start. We fell to sixth or seventh and got back to third. By that time the track had went away so much there wasn’t any passing. We just rode around and that's where we finished.”
The weekend concluded on Saturday when Mallett and his fellow USCS competitors made their first-ever visit to ECM Speedway. The 25-year-old got up to speed quick at the 3/8-mile oval, finishing second in the dash and winning a heat race.
“You break it down point by point,” he explained of a new track. “You look at the place and we like to try to figure out a track it reminds us of, whether its size or shape or even the type of dirt. You have to break it down by that and start from scratch and go to the basics. You always go back to square one when you go somewhere new.”
Mallett lined up fifth for the main event and ended up finishing in that same position on another track that was very challenging to pass on. The native of Greenbrier, Ark., did venture to the top side a few times in an attempt to go where no one else was and make something happen, but he had to fall back in line on the low side of the track each time.
“It was basically the same story as Hattiesburg, just a different night,” he said. “The track was good in hot laps, the dash and the heat. It was real raceable and you could use the top or bottom. By the time the feature came around, the late models and other classes had run on it enough that it got single file right around the bottom again. Every time I would go to the top, someone would sneak by me and I would have to wait on them to make a mistake on the bottom to get back by them. It was really disappointing that the track didn’t hold up for the feature. When we pushed out for the feature, we knew it would be a finish where you start kind of game.”
Mallett has a pair of USCS races on tap in Georgia this weekend. He will visit Lavonia Speedway in Lavonia on Friday night before he will wrap up the weekend on Saturday at Blue Ridge Motorsports Park in Blue Ridge.
