Scelzi Venturing to Ocean Speedway for Doubleheader This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions – FRESNO, Calif. (July 7, 2014) – Ocean Speedway holds a special place for Dominic Scelzi.

He registered his first career 360ci sprint car win at the track in Watsonville, Calif., two years ago, when he also made his King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series debut.

This weekend Scelzi will tackle the bullring on Friday as it hosts the Civil War Sprint Car Series vs. Ocean Sprints before Saturday’s King of the West event honoring the legendary Howard Kaeding.

“I’ve had probably the most races at that track and I’ve had a lot of good runs there,” Scelzi said. “Having last year be such a great race and now that we’ve got our bearings on this car, I’m really, really excited and I’m really confident.”

On this weekend last year, Scelzi led part of a nonwing feature before finishing second on the Friday. Then he posted a third-place result during the King of the West event the following night.

With the recent guidance of veteran Peter Murphy, Scelzi said the Roth Motorsports backed team is looking to duplicate that type of success this weekend.

“We are on the right path and are making great strides,” he said. “I feel like we can go in on Friday night and put down a good qualifying lap and set ourselves up for a good night right off the bat. We know we can race well. It’s just about qualifying well. I would like to qualify in the top 10 both nights, be able to get in the redraw Friday night and the dash on Saturday and be able to have two top fives. If we could meet those steps it’d be a phenomenal weekend.”

Scelzi currently ranks ninth in the King of the West championship standings, but he is only 13 points out of sixth place.
