WEST SILOAM SPRINGS, Okla. (May 15, 2015) - Robert Sellers became the first repeat winner of the 2015 AmeriFlex Hose and Accessories Oil Capital Racing Series season with a hard fought win at Flint Creek Speedway on Friday.
It was a competitive race for the lead right from the start with pole sitter David Stephenson charging into the lead behind the wheel of his D&E Supply and Dyno Services sprinter. Sellers was close behind and finally was able to pass Stephenson in turn one of lap six just as the red flag waved for Glen Passmore who took wild series of flips after clipping the wall in turn four. Passmore exited the car unhurt but the GAP Roofing sprinter was heavily damaged.
Meanwhile Stephenson went to the pits for repairs after hitting a turn one infield tire trying to keep pace with Sellers.
Stephenson returned and restarted on the rear with Sellers in command for the restart. But his lead lasted only three laps as four-time OCRS champion Jamie Passmore worked his way up to challenge and took the lead away from Sellers on lap nine.
“I started out high then when Jamie passed me down low I moved down,” Sellers said. “Sometimes it is not good to be the rabbit. We were fast and we were the rabbit at first. When he got by I moved down and started picking him back up.”
Passmore led for the next 11 laps and looked as if he might be on his way to a second straight win when a tire went down with 10 laps remaining. Passmore exited to the pits and Sellers once again was in the lead. This time Sellers made the best of his opportunity leading the final ten laps in his Checkered Flag Trucking, Donnie Coleman Racing Triple X sprinter for the win.
“In this situation it might be better to be lucky then good,” Sellers said. “I think Jamie had us covered but we will take this win anyway we can get it.”
Sellers could feel for Passmore’s plight.
“Our right rear was going flat too,” he said. “We probably could not have gone too much further.”
Finishing behind Sellers in second was Whit Gastineau, defending AmeriFlex / OCRS champion Andrew Deal finished in third just ahead of teammate Brian McClelland in fourth, and Shane Sellers was fifth.
Cameron Hagin was sporting a new color scheme on his number 5 sprinter and led the 12-lap B feature from start-to-finish to earn the 13th starting position in the A feature.
