Goldesberry Relishes Knoxville Experience, IRA Doubleheader on Deck
“We don’t come here to set the world on fire.” 2022 IRA Sprints Champion Jordan Goldesberry admitted about the team’s 2024 Knoxville Nationals. “It’s more about promoting our partners, learning as much as we can and just having fun.”
The Rockstar Energy Drink #65 Team definitely fulfilled all three of their goals during this year’s Knoxville Nationals in Knoxville, IA. With the addition of a merchandise trailer this year, the team handed out free Rockstar Energy Drink and coupons every day of the Nationals as well as selling team merchandise to go along with two public appearances during the week, first in Altoona, IA on Tuesday night from 4-6PM and then on Wednesday from 12-4PM in Knoxville at respective HyVee Fast & Fresh locations.
“The fans were amazing as always in Knoxville.” Goldesberry said. The event had record crowds every night, including a complete sell out for Saturday’s finale. “That’s the main thing. Interacting with people we only get to see maybe once a year and putting our partners out there on the biggest stage in sprint car racing and representing them well is the main goal. Anything beyond that is a bonus.”
As far as on track action, Goldesberry improved every night of competition from the team’s prelim night on Thursday, through Friday’s “Hard Knox” night and Saturday’s mains.
“The results might not show it, but we learned a ton this week.” Goldesberry stated. “We just don’t run a lot of half-miles in general so any time we do it’s super valuable to our program and it helps us get better each time we come back here. There are some things we found that should help us in the rest of the IRA season as well.”
The IRA season continues this weekend after taking two weeks off to allow their teams compete in the Knoxville events. This Saturday and Sunday the series heads to Wilmot, WI for the Kenosha County Fair race on August 17th and then to Angell Park Speedway for Sun Prairie’s annual Corn Fest celebration on August 18th.
“Fair races are always great for the fans, and we’ve got three of them in a row on the schedule.” Goldesberry said of the upcoming Wisconsin races. Saturday, August 31st will showcase the IRA at the Sheboygan County Fair in Plymouth, WI.
Tickets for this weekend’s events will be available at the respective facilities on race day, and both nights will be broadcast live on FloRacing for those unable to make it to the track.
