Blackhurst Continues Mid Season Dominance

Jake Blackhurst stalked Brandon McMullen for nearly the whole 30 lap feature waiting for any chance to get by the Bob Hood Motorsports 10w. That chance came very late in the race as McMullen got held up behind a lapped car and Blackhurst was able to move past both cars at once to take the lead and the victory. Claiming the coveted founders night trophy, Blackhurst won his 3rd IRA feature in just 5 races.

29 Bumper to Bumper IRA 410 Winged Sprints signed in to compete on the all sprintcar night at Wilmot Raceway. In Osborn and Son Trucking Qualifying, Mike Reinke set quicktime over the “Hanna City Hot Rod” Jake Blackhurst. Russel Borland timed in 3rd followed by Phillip Mock and series point leader Scotty Thiel.

Heat race number 1 was claimed by Steve Meyer over rookie contender Brandon McMullen. Phillip Mock would take 3rd followed by Mike Reinke and former track champion Todd Daun.
The 2nd heat race was won by Ben Schmidt over Scotty Thiel. Scott Beirtzer brought his 4b across in 3rd with Jake Blackhurst and Scotty Neitzel hot on his tail.
Heat race 3 was won saw a pair of IRA veterans at the helm as Wayne “Mojo” Modjeski picked up the win over Scott Uttech. Jeremy Schultz would cross in 3rd with Russel Borland in 4th and Raymond Hensley in 5th.

B main action saw Austin Deblauw, the California transplant, take the win ahead of Kris Spitz. Mike Decker brought his Lucas Oil Racing TV car home in 3rd with Jereme Schroeder in 4th, and the newly turned 19 year old Hunter Custer was 5th.

The A main was thrilling as Brandon McMullen quickly moved past Wayne Modjeski into the lead, but Blackhurst wasted no time moving into 2nd and setting his sights on the red 10w of McMullen. The pair ran within a couple of car lengths of each other most of the race, through multiple restarts and lapped traffic. It looked as if McMullen was just strong enough to hold Blackhurst at bay, but in the closing laps Blackhurst would make a daring move entering turn 3 to pass both McMullen and a lapped car and move to the point, just a lap or so later the yellow would wave one last time setting up a 2 lap dash to the checkered. Blackhurst led over McMullen, a late charging Scotty Neitzel and 18th starting Matt Vandervere. Blackhurst got a good restart and would carry it to the checkered, but McMullen would not fair so well as Neitzel drove by him down the backstretch to claim 2nd. Vandervere would settle for 4th with 20th starting Kris Spitz in 5th.
