IRA SPRINTS TO SHOW FANS ‘WIDE OPEN RACING’ AT THE LANGLADE COUNTY SPEEDWAY IN ANTIGO THIS FRIDAY!
410 SPRINTS SHOWCASE SPEED AND FURY ON WISCONSIN’S BIGGEST DIRT TRACK – THE LANGLADE COUNTY SPEEDWAY!
July 27, 2016; Appleton, WI – The Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints present some of the highest horsepower machines to take to a dirt track. The high horsepower to weight ratio make the cars the fastest machines on dirt but at many tracks drivers seldom get to utilize all that horsepower. Effective throttle control is often the key to success at many of the short tracks the series competes on in Wisconsin and Northern Illinois.
Getting to full throttle won’t be an issue this coming Friday Night, July 29th as the series heads to the Langlade County Speedway in Antigo, Wisconsin. The event is the highlight of the Langlade County Fair.
The big 5/8-mile dirt track is arguably the fastest on the circuit rivaled only by the Dodge County Fairgrounds.
The raceway, that once operated weekly had been dormant for several seasons when the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprints woke it from it’s slumber four years ago. The yearly tradition of brining the 410 sprints to Wisconsin’s north woods has occurred ever since and the races have often played out in nearly full grandstands.
Seven time series champion Bill Balog captured the contests in 2013 and 2014. Both times he made late race passes on Steve Meyer who had led the most laps on both contests. In each case Meyer seemingly had the race in hand when cautions has allowed Balog to close in and steal the victory.
Last year it was Travis Whitney grabbing top honors outrunning Scotty Neitzel for the win.
IMCA Stock Cars will run in support of the two-dozen or more 410 winged sprints that will hit speeds in excess of 130 mph at the track,
Hot laps will begin at 6:00pm, with Qualifying at 6:30pm and Racing set to begin at 7:00pm.
The fairgrounds are located at the northern end of town. Follow Highway 45 through Antigo to North Avenue and you will be at the location of the Langlade County Fairgrounds.
