Inside Line Promotions – ELMA, Wash. (Sept. 5, 2018) – Greg Wilson recorded his eighth top-10 finish of the season on Monday and he did so in impressive fashion at Grays Harbor Raceway.
Wilson guided his Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics and Gear Alloy Wheels sponsored team from 17th to a ninth-place result to cap a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series three-day holiday weekend in Washington. It marked his career-best finish at the track.
“A lot of guys were committed to the top and we were able to find some grip on the bottom,” he said. “It was a real fine line down there where if you missed it you were in a slick part of the track and had no grip whatsoever. We just put our hardhat on and stuck to our game plan and hustled it to a good finish”
The performance also earned Wilson the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.
It was a strong run following two solid nights at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., during the Outlaw Energy Showdown last weekend. Wilson qualified 21st both nights, but moved forward in both his heat race and the main event each night. He placed 13th on Friday and 14th on Saturday.
“One of the things we’re focusing on is having a race car that is strong every time we hit the track from qualifying through the main event,” he said. “The thing we’ve battled lately is having a car that is good early in the night or good late in the night. We’re working diligently toward make a good car all night long because that is what will put you in a position to compete for wins.”
Wilson heads south for World of Outlaws races this Wednesday at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore., and Friday and Saturday at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., during the Gold Cup Race of Champions.
