Inside Line Promotions – SARVER, Pa. (July 19, 2018) – Kerry Madsen posted a pair of top-10 finishes during two marquee World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series events throughout the last week.

The Big Game Motorsports driver opened the action a week ago Thursday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, for the opening night of the three-day, 35th annual Kings Royal. After qualifying 16th quickest in his group, Madsen charged from eighth to fourth place in his heat race to lock into the A Main. He then rallied from 16th to a fourth-place finish in the main event, which was the Muddy sponsored team’s 12th top five of the year.

“Thursday’s track was a little more vintage Eldora and we were good all night,” he said.

Qualifying put Madsen behind the eight ball on Friday at the half-mile oval, but this time it was because of a change in the lineup.

“It never used to matter at Eldora what pill you drew, but now it does,” he said. “The second night we were meant to be the first car in the second session. The Outlaws changed it to make us the last car in the first session. I did a conservative lap. It would have been second in the second group. The way it worked out with the format we were 13th in the first group.”

Madsen then placed fifth in a heat race and ninth in the Last Chance Showdown.

“I haven’t had that crazy of a night with a format in a long time,” he said. “It was one of those nights you shrug your shoulders and come back the next night.”

The Muddy backed team returned to Eldora Speedway on Saturday for the $50,000-to-win Kings Royal finale. Madsen qualified 15th quickest out of more than 50 competitors. A third-place result in his heat race locked him into the 15th starting position for the main event.

“In the A Main we got a little aggressive with the car,” he said. “We had to hang onto it for the first five laps. We lost a couple of spots early because our car was super tight. Our car got better as the race went on, but we gave up too much ground at the start. After an early caution it went non-stop with no yellows and we needed a caution or two.”

Madsen finished with a 12th-place result.

The team ventured to Lernerville Speedway on Tuesday for the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup. Madsen timed in second quickest overall and won a heat race to advance into the dash. Unfortunately, he pulled the second-highest number – seven – during the dash draw to line up seventh.

“Qualifying and the heat went extremely well,” he said. “We drew the back row (in the dash) so you try to get whatever you can. I ended up getting spun in the dash. We didn’t lose or gain anything. In the A Main we’d get past a couple of cars and then they’d get by us. We had a better car than eighth, but we weren’t quite good enough to drive through like we needed to.”

Madsen maintained a top 10 throughout the race before ending eighth, which was his 24th top 10 of the season.

“Realistically I was a little disappointed,” he said. “In big races you want to be fighting for the victory. We didn’t get ourselves in a position we needed to be fighting for wins.”

The team will return to action this Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa.
