Inside Line Promotions – MINOT, N.D. (June 19, 2018) – Dominic Scelzi captured a pair of top-10 finishes last weekend in North Dakota with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

The action began on Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks during the Northern Tour. Scelzi went out late to qualify and ended up with the 18th quickest time in his family owned, Roth Motorsports supported No. 41s.

“We were buried in the pill draw,” he said. “We went out third to last and it really hurt us. I think Brad Sweet was the only one who put down a great lap after going out late.”

Scelzi placed sixth in a heat race before he won the Last Chance Showdown to earn a transfer into the back of the A Main.

“We were really, really good in the feature,” he said. “I could run around the top if I had to, but I think I made maybe three laps total up there. Guys were slipping off the bottom because it was so slick and we were able to move forward. It got slower and slower as we went. The track had a little moisture off turn two and off turn four on the bottom. If you missed it you’d lose several spots. We made up most of our positions on the bottom.”

Scelzi charged from 21st to a sixth-place result, which was the second-most cars passed in the race.

“It’s a big confidence booster,” he said. “We dug ourselves a hole early in the night and were able to get out of it and almost got a top five.”

The weekend concluded on Sunday at Nodak Speedway for the Magic City Showdown.

“Something happened with our tail tank and it was leaking fuel,” he said. “We had to change that before qualifying. That hurt us because we weren’t able to make any changes to the car. I was happy with going 11th quick after that start to the night.”

Scelzi qualified 11th quickest and he advanced from fourth to third place in a heat race to lock into the eighth starting position for the main event.

“I was making good time running around the top, running seventh or eighth, when I hit a hole off turn two and just about tipped it over,” he said. “I tried to change my entry to help the exit and I hit it again. I moved down to the bottom and was running 11th. With about 10 laps to go I moved back up top and we were able to get up to 10th.”

Scelzi overcame the near crashes to post a 10th-place finish, which was his fifth top 10 of the season during World of Outlaws competition.

Scelzi is slated to make his debut at Farley Speedway in Farley, Iowa, on Friday and at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis., on Saturday during the Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial presented by Karavan Trailers with the World of Outlaws.
