Inside Line Promotions – MANSFIELD, Ohio (April 30, 2018) – Brian Brown posted his best finish of the season last Friday during the opening round of the $100,000-to-win Sprint Car World Championship at Mansfield Motor Speedway.

“It was an awesome event,” he said. “I can really see that event getting bigger and bigger.”

Brown was strong throughout the event, beginning on Friday when he qualified sixth quickest overall out of the more than 70 competitors. He then advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race to start an A Main on the outside of the front row.

“We unloaded pretty fast from the get-go,” he said. “We led the majority of the A Main. I got a little hesitant in traffic and let Tim (Shaffer) get by. When I came up on the lappers they were running two wide. I got slowed to their pace. Once Tim got me the yellow came out. We stayed with him the rest of the race. We had a good race car. It just didn’t play out in our favor.”

Brown’s runner-up result was his best finish of the season and it locked him into the dash that determined the first four rows of Saturday’s 50-lap finale.

“It was nice to get locked in because it saved a lot of stress for Saturday,” he said. “We drew the No. 6 and finished sixth in the dash.”

Brown quickly advanced into the top five and he ran there for the first half of the A Main.

“We went from sixth to fourth and passed (Aaron) Reutzel at one time,” he said. “Our right rear tire was losing air or going flat. At the break it was down to four pounds of air. We had to make a decision at that point to change a tire and restart last or try to keep it up and get racing. We were able to keep it up for the first lap or two (following the restart) and then the yellow came out again and it went flat. That was the end of our weekend. It was disappointing. We had a car that was able to contend for a win so that’s encouraging also.”

Brown’s flat tire just after the midpoint of the race effectively capped his weekend. He was able to return to the track for a lap or two before pulling off the track with an 18th-place result.

“I want to thank Chad, Michael and dad,” he said. “They’re working hard and the attitudes are great. We just need a little bit of luck.”

Brown is hopeful the luck will show up this weekend when his team races on Friday at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series and on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa.

“We’re really looking forward to this weekend,” he said. “We’ve been traveling and criss-crossing the country racing. It’s good to go a couple of hours down the road to Lake Ozark. We have a lot of great partners from that area with Impact Signs, Awnings, Wraps, Champion Oil, Fischer Body Shop and Ditzfeld Transfer to name a few. It’s good to race in front of some local support.”

Brown will also take part in a meet-and-greet event with FVP employees and customers prior to Friday’s race.
