Inside Line Promotions – PORT ROYAL, Pa. (Oct. 17, 2016) – Jason Sides earned his best National Open result in five years last Friday at Williams Grove Speedway, where Sides scored a top-10 finish during the marquee World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series event.

Sides opened the night by qualifying fourth quickest in his group, which lined him up on the outside of the front row for a heat race.

“We had a good qualifying effort there,” he said. “You want to race, but at the same time our entire goal for the night was to make the two laps of qualifying count. Then we made it through our heat race.”

Sides placed second in the heat race to lock himself into the dash, where he ended eighth to line up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event. The feature began with Sides quickly picking up a pair of positions to run sixth before he dropped several spots during the middle portion of the 40-lap race.

“We stayed on the bottom too long,” he said. “The bottom was good there early. With everyone trying to run the top it allowed us to get a couple of spots early. The bottom went away a little bit and the top actually gained speed because you could make speed around the corners.

“On that red flag (on Lap 24) the tires were so blistered that I didn’t really want to be running up on the top and have something happen so the last 15 laps I tried to stay around the bottom and keep it out of harm’s way if something did happen.”

Sides battled inside the top 10 for the remainder of the race and he placed 10th, which was his 27th top 10 of the season with the World of Outlaws. It also marked his first top 10 at the half-mile oval since placing sixth in July 2013 and the result was his best during the National Open since finishing seventh in 2011.

“Any time you can make the dash and give yourself a decent starting spot to get a top 10, especially at the National Open, it’s a good night,” he said.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Port Royal Speedway, where Sides qualified 14th quickest before he ended fourth in a heat race. That locked him into the 14th starting position for the main event.

“The track stayed fast all night,” he said. “The bottom went away pretty quick, especially going into turn one. It had some moisture off turn two, but you really had to slow down to get it. In the feature more cars were out there so the bottom went away quicker.”

Sides finished 20th.

He is slated to return to World of Outlaws action this Friday at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., for the O’Reilly Auto Parts Rumble on the River and Saturday at Salina Highbanks Speedway in Salina, Okla., for the O’Reilly Auto Parts Twister Showdown.
