Wednesday's With Wayne- Back With the Outlaws This Week!
Wayne Johnson and Two-C Racing team will be back in the upper Midwest this weekend, running with the World of Outlaws. The Oklahoma City driver will compete with the WoO at the Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa Friday and at the US36 Raceway near Cameron, Missouri Saturday. Last Saturday night saw a sixth place finish in ASCS-Red River region action at the Texas Motor Speedway dirt track in Fort Worth.
Wayne started fifth in his heat at TMS Saturday. “We were able to have a good run in the heat and get up to second,” he says. “That made us the high-point driver, and we drew the two to start the feature on the front row outside.”
The surface was dry-slick all night. “The track was really better than it has been in the past,” says Wayne. “They reworked it a couple of times through the night. That track is just hard on tires period, though.”
Wayne struggled in the feature. “We just weren’t good from the get-go,” he says. “We backed up to sixth. We just couldn’t make the car work. We had no forward bite at all. With the Eagle, we struggled in the slick, and really we have all year long. To go to a regional show like that and struggle like we did was really frustrating.”
The team is looking forward to running the 410 again this weekend. Wayne is a two-time winner of the Bud Shootout at US36 Raceway. “We’re excited about running at Spencer and Cameron with the Outlaws,” he says. “We really felt comfortable our last time out with the Maxim chassis and the 410 up at Jackson. Really, that’s as good as we’ve felt in the car this year.”
The Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial looms September 22-24 at Lucas Oil Speedway near Wheatland, Missouri. “We’ll stay up in Iowa and get ready for Wheatland next week,” says Wayne. “We want to be ready to roll heading into that race. That’s a special one for us.”
