Trenca Charges to Top 15 During World of Outlaws Debut at Ohsweken

Inside Line Promotions – OHSWEKEN, Ontario, Canada (July 30, 2014) – Joe Trenca made the main event in his first career World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series event.

Trenca, who was racing with a 360ci engine compared to the standard 410ci engines with the World of Outlaws, then rallied from last to a 15th-place finish on Tuesday night at Ohsweken Speedway.

“We didn’t make the feature the way we wanted to, but to be able to run with them and pass cars that were 410s was pretty cool,” he said.

Trenca kicked off the night as the fastest 360 in qualifying. He timed in 24th quickest, which lined him up on the outside of the third row in a heat race.

“On the first start we got by Jacob Allen and we got by Kraig Kinser and they called the start back,” he said. “I got back by Jacob on the second start, but with the dirty air from being behind Kinser the car got tight and Jacob got back by me. The track was pretty wet because it rained before that so the horsepower difference really showed.”

Trenca finished one position out of locking into the main event. That relegated him to the Last Chance Showdown, which transferred the top four into the main event.

“We were up to second and we had a late-race restart,” he said. “I followed the leader into the corner on the restart. It took all the air off my wing. The car pushed up a little bit and a couple of cars got by me. On the last lap I went to slide fourth place coming to the line, but he got back under me.”

Trenca placed fifth in the consolation race and thought his night was over.

“I was out of my drivers suit and we were rolling the car in the trailer and the officials said one person wasn’t going to make it,” he said. “I threw on a suit and didn’t even tie my shoes. We were rushed, but it was a good result.”

Despite no adjustment on the car and not having much fuel, Trenca maneuvered from 24th to 15th. He was tied for the most cars passed.

“We were really good on restarts,” he said. “I could get a lot of guys going into turn one. Our car was really good through the middle. That’s where I made 99 percent of my passes.”

Trenca also competed at Ohsweken Speedway on Monday. After finishing sixth in his heat race he lined up on the outside of the ninth row for the main event.

“There wasn’t a lot of passing,” he said. “The bottom was working really good for us. The leaders were up top, but they had clean air which helped a lot.”

Trenca rallied from 18th to finish 11th.

He will return to action this Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., and on Saturday at Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, Pa.
