Inside Line Promotions – NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (June 30, 2014) – Big Game Motorsports driver Sammy Swindell is heading into the busiest month of the season with momentum.

Swindell and his Big Game Treestands team are scheduled to compete in 15 World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series races throughout five states and two Canadian provinces in July, which starts this Wednesday at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D., before the Boothill Showdown on Friday and Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kan.

“You’d like to say you’ve won eight or 10 races and every night you are right there,” he said. “I think we’ve made some gains from where we have been. It’s more positive than negative going into these races. Hopefully this next week we can roll some stuff together.”

Swindell is coming off a tripleheader with the premier sprint car series last weekend when he recorded a top-five finish and a pair of top 10s.

“I think we made some gains on our car and setups,” he said. “We did try some different things and found some positive things to take from the weekend.”

The weekend opened last Friday at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, where the Big Game Treestands team qualified third quickest and finished fourth in a heat race to advance into the dash.

“We had a good qualifying lap for where we went out and had a decent run in the heat race,” Swindell said. “The dash draw didn’t help us, but we were able to go from sixth right up to third.”

That started Swindell on the inside of the second row for the main event.

“In the main we started out pretty good,” he said. “We were running right there with the leader. We had a pretty long run it seemed and then we had a yellow. After that the car just quit working. We lost a little air pressure in the left rear tire and sealed up the right rear tire, so on the restart it just couldn’t get going. We lost a couple of spots. Then we had a red and we were able to do a few things. It was better again, but some of the restarts just didn’t go our way. Once you get back in that midpack it gets pretty rough.”

Swindell capped the night with a 10th-place result.

The Big Game Treestands team battled ignition issues early on Saturday at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis., for the 5th annual Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial. After the engine quit prior to the start of hot laps the team changed the engine before qualifying. Swindell missed his qualifying spot and got one lap at the end. Although it was 12th quickest – good enough to make the heat race inversion and start him on the pole of a heat race – he was penalized and not eligible for the inversion because he missed his qualifying spot.

That credited the Big Game Treestands team with 13th in qualifying and after placing fourth in a heat race, Swindell started the main event on the inside of the seventh row. He maneuvered into seventh place by the midpoint of the race, but a late-race restart cost him several positions.

“On a restart we got trapped and wound up losing quite a few positions,” he said. “There wasn’t much I could do about that. Sometimes (double-file restarts) help you and sometimes they hurt you. On the previous ones we gained ground and it just happened on the last one we lost ground.”

Swindell ended with an 11th-place finish.

The weekend concluded on Sunday at Cedar Lake Speedway, where Swindell qualified fourth quickest, charged from third place to win his heat race and finished third in the dash to start on the inside of the second row for the main event.

“I made a pretty good start,” he said. “I was able to stay right there with the guys. We had a restart later when I was fourth and I got hung out again. This time it let cars go by us on both sides. It was pretty busy.”

Swindell battled within the top five throughout the feature before he placed fifth, which was his ninth top five of the season.
