Back to the Midwest: Kraig Kinser Set for Stops at Clay County Fair Speedway & Deer Creek Speedway
Granger, IA—Sept. 13, 2011—With the calendar well into September, and the leaves starting to turn, that means one thing, the World of Outlaws season is beginning to wind down. The series will make their final appearance of the season in the Upper Midwest this weekend with a pair of shows, as the stretch run continues, with just 11 main events remaining in 2011. For Kraig Kinser, this weekend will present a couple of tracks that he has run up front at and been in contention for wins at.
The pair of events begins for Kinser and the Casey’s General Store team on Friday, Sept. 16 at Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa, followed by a stop at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn. on Saturday, Sept. 17.
Kinser made his debut at Clay County in 2008, finishing second to his then-teammate Donny Schatz. He has made three starts in his career at the sprawling 3/8-mile, recording a pair of Top-10 finishes. Last season the native of Bloomington, Ind. ran second in the third heat race to earn a spot in the dash where he lined up ninth and worked his way up to seventh, which put him on the inside of the fourth row for the start of the 30-lap main event. He ended up finishing seventh in the feature.
The third generation driver competed in the inaugural World of Outlaws event at Deer Creek in 2009, starting second and jumping to a quick lead at the drop of the green. He paced the first five circuits, before drifting high coming off turn three as a tire started to go down. After the tire let go, he was forced to the work area. After restarting at the back of the field, he wound up working his way back to a 14th-place finish. The 2005 winner of the Knoxville Nationals came home 18th last season at Deer Creek.
The 2004 World of Outlaws Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year wrapped up the recent Gold Rush Tour with a 10th-finish at Antioch (Calif.) Speedway on Monday night, following runs of 16th and 17th in the 58th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif.
Kinser enters the pair of races this weekend ninth in the World of Outlaws championship standings, just five markers out of the eighth position, as he continues his first season driving for the Parsons Motorsports team.
Kraig on Clay County Fair Speedway:
“I’ve always run pretty good at Spencer, and almost won in my first start there. It’s a wide track and you have to carry a lot of momentum into the corners there. Starting up front there is very important, as it is at almost every track nowadays. I think some of the things we’ve been working on and trying the last few weeks will work at Clay County.”
Kraig on Deer Creek Speedway:
“Deer Creek is a very nice facility and the track is usually pretty racy. There are great sprint car fans in Minnesota and hopefully we can put on a good show for them. We led some there in our first visit in 2009 and unfortunately had some trouble with a tire. Going to a track and knowing you’ve led there always boosts the confidence.”
