Chili Bowl Nationals

BLANEY ROLLS THROUGH CHILI BOWL

TULSA, Okla. - After winning Thursday night's preliminary feature, Dave Blaney fought off several challenges to win the 7th Annual Chili Bowl Midget Nationals 50-lap feature at the Tulsa Expo Raceway.

Blaney jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag, but it was Ken Schrader who took command on the second round. Schrader led for only two circuits before Blaney regained the lead. Schrader's strong run would come to an end after 21 laps after losing the belt that drives the fuel pump.

Blaney led the way until lap 38 when Brent Kaeding edged into the lead. Luck was on Blaney's side as a Tony Stewart spin brought out the caution, putting Blaney back in front. On the restart, Blaney blocked Kaeding on the low side, opening up the cushion for Ron Shuman, who took over second on the 43rd round.

Blaney held the lead to the checkered flag, with Shuman in second and Kaeding in third. Kevin Doty claimed fourth, with Dean Erfurth coming from the ninth row to round out the top five. Former winner Scott Hatton was sixth, with Jack Hewitt charging from the 12th row to snare seventh.

Danny Lasoski, who was running third in the early going when the kill switch was accidentally activated, rebounded to finish eighth, with Dan Boorse and Sammy Swindell completing the top ten.
