Midwest Power Series Season Opening Weekend - Attempt 2!

The QualityFreightRate.com Midwest Power Series was washed out on the first attempt at a season opener last month, but we try again this coming weekend at Jackson Motorplex and I-90 Speedway!

The weekend starts in a big way on Friday, June 11 at the facility that has hosted more MPS shows than any other; Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, MN. There have been 11 features contested at the recently-renovated 4/10ths oval, with the first being on June 1, 2018 seeing Ryan Bickett come from 11th to victory. Last season in 2020 two MPS events were contested, with Matt Juhl and Justin Henderson seeing victory lane. Only 4 drivers have claimed multiple wins during that time. Jack Dover and Lee Grosz both have 3 victories at the Minnesota track, and both plan to be in attendance Friday night to improve upon that mark. The series will be joined by the MSTS sprint car series both Friday and Saturday night. This will serve as the first of 5 MPS races at Jackson, including the opening two nights of the big Power Series Nationals on September 3rd & 4th. Jackson Motorplex is a 4/10-mile dirt oval located in Jackson, Minn. It hosts special events from May through September, including races with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series, Midwest Power Series, Tri-State Late Models and more. On Saturday night the show travels West on I-90 to Hardford, SD and the I-90 Speedway, again accompanied by the MSTS. Last season in 2020 saw the only trip to I-90 Speedway in series history, and Jack Dover captured victory in dominating fashion. Hartford, SD remains the most western trip on the schedule, and the furthest West the series has ever run. The series will return to I-90 on July 31 as part of the Chuck Zitterich Memorial. I-90 speedway is a 3/8ths mile dirt oval with 22 degrees of banking. The racetrack opened in 1976 and has gone by a couple of names in its history. The track originally opened as a half mile but was cut down to it’s current configuration in 1988. Currently, the track races IMCA Racesaver sprint cars weekly. This double-header weekend will serve as races number 1 & 2 respectively for the 2021 Season. The 2020 season saw Justin Henderson take home the season points championship, accumulating a series single season record of 5 wins in his 8 feature starts. Henderson also leads the series in all-time wins with 10. That’s a full 6 ahead of the tie for 2nd between Brooke Tatnell, Lee Grosz, and Jack Dover.

The QualityFreightRate.com Midwest Power Series is a 360 winged sprint car series based in the upper Midwest. It was formed by Randy Grages of Midwest Power Equipment in 2015 as a “series within a series” featuring added purse money at several UMSS 360 winged sprint car shows. It continued to gain momentum in 2016, and in 2017 Greg Parent of GRP Motorsports out of Stillwater, MN came on board as a race sponsor and series point fund sponsor. Today, Greg Parent directs the series and it has become a premier racing series in the upper Midwest.
