CHAPMAN - POWERS & KLIMA GRAB FIRST CHECKER OF THE SEASON
The opening program of the 50th Anniversary for the National Championship Racing Association Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing & Hoosier Race Tires is in the books after a grandstand filled opener at Salina Speedway in Salina, Ks, Saturday night.
The New NCRA 305 Sprints of Kansas opened their campaign with a field of 16 cars on hand. Toby Chapman, of Panama, Nebraska picked up the win, followed by Taylor Velasquez, Jeremy Huish, Koby Walters and Jeff Stasa. The 25 lap main event was slowed by just (2) cautions early in the race.
Former NCRA Champion Dan Powers, of Wichita, Ks, picked up the win in the Modified division over runner-up, and USMTS competitor Tyler Davis. Paden Phillips, Corey Lagroon and Brody Robe rounded out the top five. A field of 17 cars made the call for the season opener.
In the AAAModified division, Darrick Klima showed a great deal of power and skill landing in victory lane over runner-up Aaron Rayl, of Hutchinson. Warren Huffman, Hunter Vogan and Stacey Huffman would round out the top five.
Special awards provided by Hoosier Race Tire and Mel Hambelton Ford Racing were awarded to; Toby Chapman (1) Hoosier Sprint Car front tire for winning the feature event. Boyd Peterson (1) Hoosier Sprint Car front tire in winning the Hard Charger Award by passing (6) cars in the feature event. Kyler Johnson picked up a cool "C" note ($100) from Mel Hambelton Ford Racing by drawing the lowest number during check-in of the NCRA 305 Sprints of Kansas.
Joe Cleveland and Terry Collins each picked up a $50.00 bill from Mel Hambelton Ford Racing for drawing the lowest number during check-in for the Modified and AAAModified. Chapman also received (2) Hoosier Pull Over Jackets for his win in the NCRA 305 Sprints of Kansas.
Next event for the NCRA Racing Series is scheduled for Friday, May 7 at Salina Speedway in Salina, Ks.
